I took this just before I moved away. One of my favs. I have it as my desktop on my puter at work

a couple pics from "that" storm.
The picture of the damage at the Pullman building is incredible with the lightning in the backround. I'll have to post some of my "Not a Tornado" of '06 pictures.
Hey Southsider, I tried to send you an email. Did you go to St. Paul's?
I got some really cool pictures of the ice shelf and lighthouse yesterday up at the Washington Park. I have to get them onto my computer at home so I can post them.
As promised, my pics from the lake yesterday. The first one is my personal fav, because it shows how hard the wind was blowing. The snow was blasted into the sand, and not on top of it.
As for the rest the shelf-ice was built up to about 3-4 feet in most spots, and there was an interesting out crop off to the east side of the park beach.
Great shots of the lighthouse. I'm a SP grad of '78. Feel free to post other pics of MC, I haven't been back there since the mid 80's.
Cool photos.
I take thousands of pictures for the City of Michigan City every year. Some of them are posted in the scrapbooks at emichigancity.com. I'm attaching a few of my favorites...the first two were taken by a friend of ours, and I took the other two.
Jank--Beautiful pics. I especially like the one with Chicago on the horizon. Thanks for posting them and welcome to the site!!!
Thanks...on both counts!
I stumbled on this site earlier today, and I was impressed to see that there are nearly 300 members. I've read a lot of the postings and have enjoyed my time on the site.
I'm a self-employed marketing and community relations consultant; my largest client is the City of Michigan City, but I also work with non-profits, contractors, health care professionals, bed & breakfasts, and for-profit businesses.
While I work for the mayor (Sheila Brillson and Chuck Oberlie), I speak only for myself. Working with the city for six years now, I've learned much about local government that I'd never known before. It's been a wonderful education for me, and the result has been that I've had the opportunity to become really involved with the community - on a level I had previously never even thought about. I strongly encourage people to get involved with community groups. You'll see the "inner workings" of government and non-profits and be more aware of how things happen...or don't happen.
Consider this...would you apply for, strive for, work hard to get a job and then do your darndest to do poorly at it? Few if any would do that. Would you work so hard to get a job that demanded an almost 24/7 availability of your time and involvement? Few would. Would you strive to get a job that almost guaranteed that you would be the target of misinformation, rants, and outright lies about your abilities, your efforts, your achievements, your very character? Again, few would.
I don't remember who said it first, but..."just because it's written in a newspaper or a book or on the internet...or spoken on a radio or a television...doesn't mean it's true."
Ghandi said, "Be the changes you wish to see."
I do my best to live up to that challenge and have always encouraged my children to follow that same path.
I am frequently "the boat rocker" - the person who asks the unspoken/uncomfortable questions. Stimulating conversation often leads to new thoughts, ideas, concepts, and ACTION. I have sat in too many meetings where there is far too much talk and too little action taken. I strive to make something happen.
People like you who get involved with the community - on any level - are to be commended. There simply aren't enough people willing to expend their time and energies to do more than complain about things.
An example: The library has a perpetual waiting list of almost 80 people who have requested literacy skills training. The library continually seeks volunteers to become tutors...and has even tried to PAY people to become literacy tutors. NO takers. This is a common situation throughout NW Indiana regarding literacy - as well as most other organizations which depend on volunteers. Some schools and service organizations require their members/students to complete 'x' number of hours as a volunteer in the community - a program which is awesome - but it just isn't enough.
Just another of my many soapboxes.
Yeah, you should fit in really nicely around here. We all have our soapboxes
What's new?
I have some recent pics from the zoo, I will have to try to get up this weekend.
Looking forward to it.
Here's some of the pics I took while in town on vacation...
I let the kids bury me in the sand

It looks like you had a good trip.
Yeah. And I can't wait to get back. I just wandered around aimlessly yesterday. It was awful. I'm back to work today so that will help. I have a pile of work on my desk so I should be VERY busy for the next few days. But, I still can't help wishing I were still there.
So I got it pointed out to me that I haven't updated pictures in a while, so here are somethings from over the summer. Enjoy!
Right On!!! I love the skyline. It looks so HUGE. I downloaded that one into my MC Pictures folder and had to show everyone in the office. Thanks for posting that one!
nice
I was up in Indiana in late September to help my older daughter move back home. I rented a car and came up to MC for a night. The weather was great and it was really nice to see that MC made a nature trail/preserve out of the Ruby woods. When I was a kid my back yard was up against the woods and I have a lot of fond memories of it... Here is the chimney that was back there. Now there is a trail up to it. How about dat?

I am glad to see that Mrs. Cllinton has finally confronted one of Bill's tramps!
It's like a soul-picture! Just one of her better ones I think....
Could anyone give help on uploading photos?
If the pic is on your computer:
Go to "add reply"
Scroll down to File Attachments and click the browse button
Navigate through your files until you find the picture you want to upload and double click it.
Click "Add this Attachment" button
The page will refresh and you will see your attachement under the browse button. Next to that will be a button that says, "Add into post" Click that.
The attachement will be added into your post wherever your cursor is. So, put your cursor in the post where you want the attachment to be before you click "add into post"
When the attachment is in the post you will see something like this:
Then click "add reply" The attachment will convert into a little picture like The Mikester's post above that you have to click on to see a larger image.
If the pic is online, like photobucket or something:
Go to "add reply"
Click on the little tree icon at the top of the text window.
Paste the url of the pic you want to post and click okay.
That will put the pic directly into your post like how CCR does it.
That just does not work...
Someone will have to bring a laptop to the meet & greet with internet access and we can give a tutorial of the board so people can learn how to do various things.
I don't know why it's not working for you. I'm sure you're following the directions and I don't think I missed a step or anything.
CALLING ALL LAPTOP OWNERS
If anyone has a laptop that can access the internet and you are planning to attend the meet & greet, please bring it with you so the Admin team can give tutorials of board functions.
Thank you.
Is that John and Paul?
I tried to add some nice photos I have of MC but it just does not work.
SSider:
The third photo you posted on March 11, 2007 is awe-inspiring. For the lake to be that calm, and the sky to match the lake so precisely... Yes, I know I'm a behind the times, but I wanted to comment on that photo, point it out so that a few other people blow it up and look at it, and let you know I am using it for my desktop wallpaper at school. I hope I don't owe you any residuals.
the last one would make a nice entry for the logo contest
That is great photography.
one from last night's 4th on the 13th fireworks
That should be a logo submission!
I was looking at a bunch of stuff in flickr, and it confirmed my feeling that the digital cameras are a different beast than film. Less art, you know.
I am referring to all the photoshopping that is done.
A few quick pics from my quick vacation to Silver Lake, Michigan. My family has spent a week up there every summer, except one, since 1970. It's beautiful. What I like to do most is run across the dunes to Lake Michigan at sunrise (or sunset, although it's more crowded then). This time I took a camera with.
Nice.
Nice! The "litterbox on the lake!" lol. I've been there many times on my Momo sickle but only in the off season. Crazy place in the summer!
I am trying again to upload photos:
[No dice. I selected a nice photo and it is in the file attachment box, and I click on the Add this attachment box, waitandwaitandwait, then nothing happens.]
After you add the attachment, you have to click to add it into the post, otherwise I think it just hangs around in limbo.
All this talk about the coal tower inspired me to stop and take a couple pics of this pillar from the past
the chute that would convey the coal up
Roberts and Schaefer Co. from Chicago designed and built the tower. They're still in business in a similar capacity.
One of the two reasons this tower is still standing, it's reinforced to the hilt with steel. It would also require shutting down the line for a couple days. Someday, it'll come down though.
North East side of the tower
looking up through a hole in the ceiling in a back room on to the outside of the conveyor
one of the back rooms was tagged up recently evidently by "Black Sabba" and "BeBop."
the conveying chute. Check out the pulley
some BIG poison ivy!
there is easily a couple hundred pounds of junk steel lieing around this place. Don't tell the scrap thieves!
Nice study.
Silver Lake is a fun place, isn't it? Did you bring any toys to play on the sanddunes with? I've been up there on dirt bikes before, lot's of fun but it's pretty dangerous during the summer. Lot's of guys drinking beer on high power machines = a bad mixture. lol
No ghosts in the tower, the freakiest thing I saw by far was that MONSTER bush of poison ivy. I couldn't look at it too long otherwise I'd start itching. I've already been through two bouts with it this year, one that lasted for a month and required to prescriptions of the nasty drug prednisone. Ugggghhhh.
For PI, try Fluocinonide 0.05% cream, by Rx.
I actually use Fels Naptha. Lather up in cool water, rinse, then lather up again and let this lather dry on the affected area.
Drum rrrrrrroll, please!
Darn! another weird problem from photobucket. When I try to paste the url in the space below, it keeps goinng to my personal computer's photo file and makes me pick one from there. I do, and then nothing happens.
Drat!
Ok, here goes
[cues angelic choirs]
Am I the only one with goosebumps?
Now, how can I resize the photo to fit into the screenview?
Oh, ho! In photobucket I see there is a button to Edit. However, I can't get to it cuz it would mess up my new upload.
BTW, that is the county road that runs right next to PNC, correct? Either way it is a pretty picture.
On Wozniak Rd., heading north on way back to MC from the orchard.
I have to scroll a little bit to see the edge of the photos, CCR's included. Marram's all fit. My res is 1280x800.
h
Roger, here's the quick fix: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Monitors/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=223-4890
Congratulations are in order, Roger. Beautiful photos. I'm going to use the winter road picture as my wall paper for a while, because, believe it or not, I sort of like winter.
Roger, notice that the picture below was left in its original digital size without me resizing it first in photobucket, which is what I have been doing lately:
Its like a kid riding his bike for the first time... I am so proud!
a couple pics I took this morning. I tend not to be a gapper but I go by this church daily and had the camera handy
Gapper or gaper?
As seen from a different perspective:
Here is a little study in contrast:
Roger I am so PROUD of you!!! I too have goosebumps!
Amazing pictures too.
Notice the stripes on the sparrow's noggin. They remind me of the Michigan Wolverines football helmets. It is a White Striped Sparrow. Personally, I call them the U of M sparrow.
Friday night at the County Fair. (oldest County Fair in the State!)
Nice pics, but some of those carnies and vendors looked a little ticked off. Perhaps they don't like having their pictures taken? Maybe they're afraid you're going to steal their soul? LOL Especially the guy in the sunglass booth.
I notice that when I get to this thread, all the photos are transferred from photobucket. What would happen if I closed my photobucket account? Would the photos quit loading?
It's just uploading the images. Now that you've viewed that page once, it should pop up almost instantly and they'll be stored in your temp files or cache.
Unless I have the cache- and cookie-dumping settings on high, I suppose.
Where is this?
and this?
Here is a hint:
and this little gem?
is that last picture over by liberty trail?
More photos from Saturday:
the first one is the fountain at Sheila square.
ahhh friendship gardens!
No. They did have the second half of their garage sale on Saturday, but I did not go.
In that case, I have no clue.
First one is the fountain.
Second is the Amtrak siding switch by the DNR.
Third is at the new park by Krueger Jr Hi. In the background is a ditch that flows into Trail Creek, which is flowing from the fisherman's left to right.
The flowers are from Millenium Park.
The stones are from the track bed by the DNR.
well I got the fountain and the train tracks was pretty much a given with the Nipsco building in the back.
I haven't been to the park by Krueger since it's been built but we used to go back by the train trestle back there to go fishing when I was younger. We'd either ride bikes right there by the honk bridge or park a car at the bowling alley and walk through that field at night.
A couple photos from Monday.
Morning:
Evening:
The Marsh (almost dark):
which marsh is that? The sunrise behind the coaling tower threw me for a loop. I was wondering what the sun was doing setting behind it, lol. whoops!
I like the way the sun glows off the rails making them look like streaks of fire.
Hmmmm, a possible candidate for the logo?
Is that the boat hotel in the 3rd picture? If so, what a behemoth!
Seriously, I was thinking that might make a good logo for CBTL, but I'm not sure how I like the boat hotel being in it.
Actually I like that one. You should post it in the logo thread.
I know it's the wrong lake, but our name isn't City By Lake Michigan. It's just City By The Lake, so I'm sure any lake would do? HA HA
In the "Logo" photo, do we have to use that Star Trek font?
Or space balls for that matter.
When you said Kittens, I thought of the Fried Cat restaurant on 212. Has anyone on the board ever eaten there?
Hmmm......
Not sure if I want to eat at a cat restaurant. What's on the menu?
Well, it is called Fried Cat, so I think that is what they cook up and serve.
Isn't frieds closed?
Pictures from tonight's storm. I don't know what damage (if any) was done in the area. We seemed to have dodged a bullet in my area and amazingly didn't even lose power which is a common occurance. I Larger than some states and the only thing around. The cell was enormous and was the only thing around. I was able to go to the waters edge to snap a couple shots before the deluge.
Just awesome pics G. Mother nature is incredible.
Nice catch on the lightning.
(heavy sigh) I miss watching storms come across the lake.
Fantastic photos. I'm using one as my wallpaper. Where do I send the check?
Not MC, but just a couple days ago in WY.
Nice.
My daughter was standing over my shoulder looking at these pics and yells out, "Aw come on!! That's not fair. I want to go home, Mom. I WANT to go home!" She hasn't even seen the lake pics
Yellerstone?
Maybe the last one, but i don't believe those pics are in WY. Unless Marram was here in April or May, there is just too much green for that to be WY. I'm thinking in MI somewhere.
I was trying to picture something around Jackson.
Thanks for the endorsement.
What about UP?
Technically, there are plenty of mountains in Michigan. Anything 305 meters or taller is a mountain. Anything under 305 is a hill.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Arvon
UP = Upper Peninsula
people who live in the U.P. = Upper pronounced Youpper
people who live in the L.P. = Trolls (live under the bridge)
Boyne Mountain on the troll side = 341 meters
I did not say it WASN'T Yellowstone. I said if it was, it would have to have been taken sometime in April, May, or early June, because after that everything turns brown. Beyond the waterfall toward the right, there is a field of some sort. It's still kinda green, but you can see yellowish/brown patches beginning to form. By July 1st that whole field would be dead looking.
Besides, Yellowstone is on fire right now. Not as bad as in the 80's, but I heard on the radio the other day that parts of the park closed because of burning. They actually said the dead trees from the 80's fire is what has been keeping this one from getting out of control.
Dave and Roger -- you were both right. Yellowstone National Park, it was. The first picture is during the evening just north of Norris. The second is actually about two hours earlier on Howard Eaton Trail between Mammouth Falls and Mt. Bunsen. And the third is even earlier that day, Friday, 8/8/08 BTW, at the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. I thought my first picture with the rainbow, which was from Saturday, labeled from WY would surely give it away.
Ang, where do you live in WY? We might have driven right by your house.
Ssider mentioned that there were no mountains like that in MI, and a discussion ensued about the UP. Any mountains like this in the UP?:
Or animals like this? Seriously, though, are there moose in the UP?
The antelope was from Custer State Park near the Black Hills of SD.
I am in Casper. If you took 90 west, then you passed about 2 1/2 hrs north of my town.
If you took 80 west to 25 north, then you passed about 1/2 mile north of my house. (I-25 actually runs east/west between Douglas and Casper).
I think you and I stood in the same spot cause I have almost the exact same pictures of Jackson Lake. Pretty cool, huh? That place is absolutely breathtaking!!
Are you guys still there or did you recently get back? I wish I would have known you were going, I would have sent you in search of this...
I went the first week of August two years ago. Man!! I was cold at night!
I am amazed by how much green is actually still there. We did have a lot of rain in June, which may account for why it's still green there.
Here is a shot from 2006 of the Grand Tetons when I went. This was taken on the Jackson Hole side of the Tetons. Notice how the grass is all brown at the lower part of the picture. It was taken July 31, 2006.
I just had to share these last few pictures of Yellowstone before calling it a day.
Whew. Now I have that out of my system and can go to sleep.
Wednesday at the zoo:
Entrance Fee - $9
Nutty Chocolate Sundae Ice Cream Bar - $1.25
Parking - Free
Gas - $26.50
A Zoo Day Together...
Priceless
Also, here's the MC skyline as it appears to those locked in the tower
See Chicago through the haze?
Hmmmmmm...............I think I like having the photos in-line rather than having to open in another window.
Is that what that is? Gee, I thought it was metal tubes covered in snow. Man, I guess I need to relook at that picture.
Well, you know, it's a series of tubes....
So, are you telling me it's cold inside the internet?
It is a picture of Hell after the Cubs win the Series!

Tuesday nearly sunset
I had never been through a corn field before and the arrays of plants were intriguing.
What a difference a day makes.
There's more than corn in Indiana... well not really
I was thinking, There is nothing but corn in Indiana.
There is soybeans in southern Indiana.
Beautiful pics Roger. Thank's for sharing. I especially like the sunset across the snow covered field.
This is a picture with the sun still hidden behind the cloud.
About seven minutes later...
I gotta start carrying a camera around again. Nice shop, Roller.
Thanks but that's not my shop!
I was tempted to photochop bulbs in to replace the burnt out ones, lol. Decided to keep it real.
Whoa, Nellie! I mean shoT, not shoP, which seems to imply photoshopping.
Dang!! You're GOOD!
Thanks! Although I know Photoshop pretty well, I prefer to try to get a good exposure at the front end, i.e. the camera. However, if the festival of lights doesn't include changing a couple bulbs on the old band shell, I'll take artistic license.
Where am I?
Where? When?
last night's winter storm
That last one is beautiful!
Thanks! The last one are some dead dune grasses which until two nights ago were standing staight up in the air. They got covered in ice and the whole grass flopped over. My favorite is the third one, which is an apple tree in my drive. Notice how there is more ice on the topside of the branch, kind of cool.

Wow! You guys did get nailed. We haven't had that much snow this year. Maybe total accumulation since October is that much, but not all at once.
this morning
It's 42 degrees here right now and the sun is shining and the wind is only blowing about 15 mph. It's a beautiful day in Casper, Wyoming!
Great pics, everybody, keep 'em coming.
I guess like the Pretenders say, "my city is gone". Was doing some internet searching and looked at some aerials of MC. Looked at where the MC airport used to be and it's now all built up. Used to be just empty fields out there and a few run down houses. Even saw what I think is another MickeyD's by there. I can remember when the one on Franklin St opened up. Out here all the schools are now prisons (or look like it) with their metals fences. I thought MC would be different, but I can see Edgewood now has a fence all around it. I remember when you could walk across the Edgewood field and play basketball at the hoops. I also remember jumping Ruby's fence behind the field and seeing their oriental backyard. It was cool. I also saw that pic of the snow at Coolspring/Franklin. A CVS? I remember when Hook's was there and you could actually buy chemicals there. I used to buy salt peter and sulfur there to make smoke bombs. I guess I've said the city has changed before, but I didn't realize how much until I saw the aerials and your pics.
Some pics from the lakefront yesterday
Ha, I like the one of the life guards chair on the beach!
Turn off that time stamp!
Here are a couple I took when I was home. They were taken on 12-29-08. So, just three weeks difference from SSder's. I think we were standing pretty much in the same spot. I can't get over the difference between my time there and now!
You guys really DID get nailed!!
Here are a few highlights from the parade for St Patricks Day
Hey Mr. Negative,
welcome to the Board!
Thanks for posting the pic, but can you tell me what I'm looking at? Is that storm damage to the building? I see the signage is all coming down.

Some pics from THE boat race. Pretty wild event!
How do you pronounce this boat's name?
This is the old Rio Roses boat which for a while was the fastest monohull boat around, 180mph+ and it sounded AWESOME.
Awesome stuff! Thanks for those.
