I think we should make this the longest thread!
Just post anything here

Seriously?
Mais oui!
I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend. Mine here wasn't too bad. Casper does this "oldies" thing for Memorial Day weekend. The whole weekend is centered around a classic car exhibit on Sunday at Fort Caspar (the original settlement in Casper). Friday there is sign-ups for the show and all the cars are on display. Then Saturday is a classic car parade with a Sock Hop Saturday night with the car show on Sunday. The Sock Hop raises money for the Humane Society and my boss is the president of the Humane Society so I was pretty involved with the weekends festivities. The Drifters played at the sock hop and I made my daughter this really cool poodle skirt. She was totally into it and it was a lot of fun. But what was so very disappointing is that the Drifters were not giving out free autographs. You had to buy their stuff to get their autograph. They were charging $20.00 for cd's (with only ten songs on it) and $7 for a poster (11X17). Absolutely rediculous in my opinion. Needless to say, we didn't get any autographs. I suppose I wouldn't have minded too much if a goodly portion of the gross were going to the Humane Society, but the Drifters were only giving 6%. Then they wanted Humane Society volunteers to sell their stuff for them!
Has anyone looked at the online News Dispatch today? They changed the format. I really like it. It will take a little to get used to navigating the new site, but the changes are pretty cool. The best thing they did was eliminate "Feedback" and replace it with the Anvil Chorus. Yeah!!! Now I can finally start reading all those letters you guys talk about! too bad they didn't do that before the elections so I could read what people had to say about that.
Oh well. It's done now and I, for one, am happy with the changes.
Ang,
I just looked at the site--you're right, it's pretty nice. Similar to the old one in some ways, but definitely better.
Also, there's still a feedback area, only now it's called "Soundoff": http://thenewsdispatch.com/main.asp?SectionID=4&TM=84626.77
You can have your anvil chorus, and leave your feedback, too.
I went ahead and changed the title of this thread... This is now the place for whatever you want to talk about, whether it is relevant or just what you had for lunch today. Enjoy!
I didn't realize what that was. I never clicked that link yesterday. I checked it out today and they have a webmaster review all postings before they are posted. Excellent idea. They should have done that a long time ago. Hopefully this new format will work for them. I'm just tickled that I can now read the Anvil Chorus.
I changed my avatar again. I decided with spring coming on, that winter scene was a little too bleak. This picture was taken on Casper Mountain looking out over the City of Casper. I did not point toward the downtown area, not that you could tell anyway, but it's a beautiful view. If anyone is interested, I have a lot of pics posted on my facebook account. Send me a PM and I'll send you the link....
What beautiful country.
Thanks. The countryside and the lack of humidity are really the only things keeping me here right now. I really miss the beach.
I can tell you that the beach was really nice this weekend The baby had a great time playing in the sand.
Has anyone driven 11st Street between Franklin and Michigan Blvd lately? WOW, its like a tank went through there. That road is god-awful right now. Anyone know if there are plans for a repave?
That is the worst street I have been on in MC--and I am including Washington Street under construction!
Ah, I just posted this on the other area... Its like they were reading my mind :0)
Cubs are winning in Milwaukee, 5 zip.
yesterday I wore a skirt, tank top and sandles. Today i am wearing pants, a sweater, socks and shoes. It's snowing in the western part of the state and in Jackson Hole it's only 36 degrees right now. Casper is at about 45 degrees and raining. They say we could get snow also. BUT, tomorrow it's supposed to be in the upper 70's. Go figure.
Aaaahhhhh, I love the mountains!!
It is supposed to be 92 here today with 40 mile per hour winds and gusty thunderstorms... this could be an interesting day.
40 mph sustained wind is typical for this area. We get that almost daily, and add 60-70 mph gusts. When you guys had that storm last August, I remember thinking, "That's nothing!! We get that almost every day in the winter."
On an average day in the summer, we have about 10-15 mph wind and the winter a typical day is 30-40 mph with 50-70 mph gusts. When it comes to windy cities, Chicago can't even compare to Casper.
HEY!!! Where is everybody?
I'm coming home for vacation. I'll be there for the 4th and stay long enough to go to the parade. Does anyone know whent the fireworks are? Hopefully the 8th? Fireworks here are lame, lame, lame. Like watching the neighbors' in my back yard. Last year I was so utterly disappointed. I'm a fireworks fanatic. I love them like a child.
Sorry Ang, fireworks are July 15th. They never schedule them around the 4th, they always shoot for a nuetral weekend to draw in the touristas.
I know, but the summer I left they did them the day after the parade. What a rip.
one big problem with the new and improved site is the pop ups are god awful, even with a blocker.
I use Firefox so my pop ups are blocked.
Or you could go to the LBCC golf course like everyone else.
Actually going out on the pier on the 3rd/4th is a great place to watch fireworks from. You can literally see firework shows from Chicago to Michigan.
I know. it's just not the same as when they're right over your head. Since I made that last post, I learned my cousin in MI, who is a pyrotechnician, will be doing a show in Buchanan. So, I think I will go there. I can ride with him and they will be literally, right over my head.
I'm not sure if anyone here has been to the LB fireworks. When you sit on the golf couse (behind the community center/old Long Beach school), they ARE right over your head. If you know someone who lives on the golf course, even better!
Either way, we'll all be here to welcome you home, Ang!
Do not forget the 5k that morning at the old LB school.
Our weather today is a high of 96 with 10% humidity.
Summer started yesterday, UTC 1806, CDT 1:06 pm.
Today in history: 1941, German invasion of the Soviet Union, 0345 local time.
The weather in Casper WY today is 95 degrees with 5% humidity.
Michigan City is 85 degrees with 55% humidity.
I don't know if I'm going to be able to breath when I get there next week. I might have to bring an oxygen tank or something. Between the thicker air of lower elevation and the humidity, I'll be struggling for sure. Good thing I quit smoking!
Ang: I got a compaq presariio c500 with vista op sys from the stre formerly known as pc depot. It works great and was inexpensive. However, I do like how win98se looked and worked better than vista. It does the same stuff as far as I can tell but more user-friendly-ly (take that, grammar freaks!)
Bring some oxygen because it is not yet 9 cdt and pushing 80, with enough humidity that the next sneeze will start a thunderstorm.
I have a Dell at home and I'm ready to move on to bigger and better things. I've had it for 6 years and it's running pretty slow. Then, my kid installed the Sims and now it's REALLY slow. I really need to upgrade!
I'm getting my car serviced tomorrow for the trip. Oh, the departure day is getting so close and I've got ants in my pants with anticipation. Beeeaaaacccchhhhh. All I can think about it the beach.
so, if you guys see a light brown Chevy Malibu with Wyoming plates driving down Franklin St (or any other street) Honk--cause that's me.
Have a safe trip!
Do you take 80 all the way?
I made it to town. WOW!! so many changes. I'll talk about it later. Anyway, I'm here so if any of you see my light brown Malibu with WYO plates, remember to honk cause that's meeeee...
Drop us a message and we can all try to figure out a good lunch time/date.
Ang, are you incommunicada while in MC?
Hey!!! I'm back on the board and back in WYO. Wow. What a trip. I stayed in Porter at my dad's and he doesn't have a puter so could only check in from time to time when visiting others.
While it feels good to be back at my place, I am terribly homesick for Indiana already (I haven't even been back 24 hours) so I have decided to return--for good. My current lease is up in November, so I will come back then. But, I think I'm going to change my status from "City-zen" to "Cheesehead" and live in Chesterton, or Porter. At any rate, I'll back.
I did spend some time in City, and I'm sorry that I didn't get a chance to meet with any of you. I was SO BUSY the whole time, and staying in Porter made it hard to see everyone I wanted to see in MC. A few things I did see and would like to comment on:
1. The lakefront looks nice. The sand was very clean and looks well maintained. Of course I walked out to the lighthouse (and got a couple nice pics which I will post in the MC pics thread), but I parked at Galveston and walked. I didn't want to pay for parking to only be there an hour or so. All in all, I was pleased with the condition of Wash. Park, except that water pond thing they have. The water was gross with gunk floating on it and there was no circulation of water so it was stagnant. What a waste of a beautiful idea.
2. Striebel Pond just looks like a marsh or boggy area. Are they done with it? Can you swim or fish in it?
3. What is with that big honking behemoth called CVS? OMG, it's huge and looks grossly out of place where it is. Do they really have enough business to support a store that large?
4. I visited the Blue Chimp (good one Rog, I like that)and didn't spend one dime at the place. I walked all around and listened to some stupid band wearing afro wigs and multi-colored bell bottoms. They did 70's music but I was not impressed. Hope none of you play in that band-if so, I mean you no disrespect, I just didn't like the band. I only stayed for an hour and drank water. I will say that the girl who waited on me was lovely and had a very sweet personality.
5. THEY REARRANGED MEIJER!!!!! I couldn't find anything in that place.
6. Is Marquette Mall even open? I didn't go in, but the parking lot was always empty when I went by, except by Applebees. My son went there and he said half the stores are empty.
That's about it. Good to be back on the board. It's funny that I was there and so out of touch with every one. I missed you guys...

Streibel Pond is actuallyy a San. Dept thing for water containment. It is not a Parks and Rec thing. It does not allow swimming, fishing, etc. It is getting connected to the mc trails.
I hate meijers.
So for all of those people who did the 7*7*7 wedding, they are probably now on their honeymoon on Friday the 13th...
What exactly does "CBTL" mean?
I was wondering, too. It seems so obvious now.
Is anyone else reading comic books?
Well DUH! I feel real stoopid...
I almost hate to say this, but I can't wait for the SuperWal-Mart to open up, because shopping at Meijer just drives me nuts anymore. I have never shopped at a place that so consistantly has empty shelves. We went Saturday afternoon/early evening, and it looked like a hurricane was coming as bare as the shelves were. Its annoying because you look at the Sunday sale ads and expect stuff to to be there, and it never is.
That has always been my biggest problem with Meijer. They put stuff on sale and never have enough product to support it. So, when you go there a day and a half into the sale, there's nothing there. I noticed that hadn't changed when I was there last week.
Okay, will someone else post some nonsense here so my name isn't listed on all the sections of the board index? lol
I can't wait for the Simpson's movie to come out, and The Departed was one of the best movies I have seen in a long time...
Hopefully that helps
I am hoping the movie is not horrible, like movies made out of other tv shows. I am gonna see it, but i dont think I could stand a full house with all the chit chat and popcorn crunching. maybe it will be at the drive in in valppo
oh, yeah, been away. good to catch up tho
Good to see you back, Max. I noticed you've been busy here. I'm anxious to get down to all your posts. Sometimes your wit totally cracks me up.
Aaarrrrgggghhhh!!!!! That stupid ND website really frustrates me!! Half the pages never work and you have to refresh constantly to get them to load right. It's crazy!!
Is it just me, or is the head host at Dino's about the rudest man you will ever run into? How does someone like that end up in the hospitality industry???
I've only gone to Dino's late at night after a night out. The night people are wonderful. Espcially the waitress Tammy. I don't know if she's still there as it has been over two years since I've been there, but I used to tip her HUGE--sometimes her tip was more than the bill she's THAT good.
I may go just to see this rudenik. How is the chow?
Food is meh, but it is cheap. The breakfast is probably the best thing they serve, all though they do really good hot roastbeef and turkey sandwiches, served with mashed potates over bread.
I recommend the rosemarina soup. It's to DIE for!!!
I imagine the food is the same as at Lighthouse. I found the eggs quite overdone the two times I have ordered breakfast omelettes. I recommend the Reuben.
My little birdie flew out of the nest today. I'm so sad. He went off to job corps in South Dakota. I'm at work trying to concentrate but I'm not having much luck with it. I'm dreading going home to my empty place. I still have one more at home and she isn't coping too well with her brother leaving. If any of you are praying folk, please include him in your prayers. He flew out of Casper this morning for Rapid City. He had to go to Denver first (?!?!) and switch planes to fly back this way to Rapid City. That makes no sense to me. He's never flown anywhere, especially alone. He's a big boy (17) but a mother still can't help worrying. I'll be restless until he calls me to say he's there. So, please pray he has a safe journey. Thank you.
The flight thing isn't odd. There are a few "major" airports that pretty much every flight is going to go in or out of. Denver is a big stopping point for anything between LA, Chicago, and Atlanta. We just never notice is because being here we usually fly out of ORD anyway.
I can't imagine having a child leave the house! Good luck to him.
Dear Lord, we pray for his safe passage. Reveal Your wonders as he travels. Bless him in his ambition and work. Grant Your peace to his mother as her love follows him. Amen.
Thank you Roger.
My boy just called me. He made it there okay. He didn't get lost at the Denver airport and they didn't lose his luggage. Yeah. Now the fun begins. He gave me an address to write and another one to send packages.
I think I'm going to bake some cookies tonite.
Lindsay Lohan says she's innocent. Hah!
"Office Honister! I don't know how that alcohol got into my system. I don't know how that cocaine got into my pocket. I'm not as think as you trashed I am."
What a joke. These celebrities today are a travesty. I use them as an example to my children on how not to behave. The sad part is that my daughter loved Lindsay Lohan and is pretty much devasted by her recent arrest.
I had never heard of her until I saw the Prairie Home Companion movie, thought she did a good job. Now all this. Shameful.
Remember that that judge was letting Miss Hilton leave jail and the public outcry stopped that.
It wasn't the judge who let her go, it was the sheriff and the judge was very angry and considered holding the sheriff in contempt.
I am proud to stand corrected and ignorant!
TGIF!!!!
I'm so glad today is Friday. This has been one awful week for me. My boss is on vacation and we have tons of renewals (I work in insurance in case anyone wonders) and it's just been one crisis after another all week long!
Also, Ang, take pride in how you were able to handle a tough week and take pleasure in the help you gave the clients.
Going to the Cubs game tonight! If Mil loses and Cubs win, Cubs will be ½ game ahead in the Central!
Booo! Go Brewers!
Well, Cubs did not win. They are one game behind the team from the state north of the state to our west. They are a 1½ games behind in the Wild Card (in 5th place!).
I am curious about Southsiders negativity. Is that just the typical White Sox fan's antipathy to the Northsiders? Just for the record, I am an NL fan because I do not like the DH. Like most of the Cubs fans I know, our attitude re the Sox is best described as indifference. Why Sox fans are so unnaturally hyperventilated about hating the Cubs is bizarre.
I think it is different working/living in Chicago, where the rivalry is a lot more intense. I hear just as much talking from Cubs fans, as I do from Sox fans. 99% of it is in good fun, just like in any other rivalry.
What about Garnett going to Boston?
We have a good debate going on the Chicago Bulls fan site that I frequent about this deal. Its pretty evenly split between people who think that the are the favorites in the East, and people who think they are way overrated. I think it gives them instant credibility as they have three players who can get it done. The lose all of their depth, but how much do they need with those guys each playing 40 minutes a night?
Sounds about right to me, too.
I don't know if any of you watch Good Morning America, but Robin Roberts has been diagnosed with breast cancer and is having surgery today. Please remember her in your prayers today and if possible, wear pink in her honor. Guys, I know you probably won't wear pink but ladies, if you can, put on something pink.
I have never heard of her. In MC, the Women's Bowling has an annual fundraiser, Bowling for the Cure, that I have been supporting. It is in Spring, so look for it.
She is an anchor on GMA with Diane Sawyer. Very lovely woman
There is a picture of her at this news article...
Anyone heard when Centier is going to get going on their new branch at 421 and 20? They said they were waiting for the intersection work to be done, but that was completed something like 9 months ago
I would imagine that the gasoline tanks that were there all those years could result in a mini-EPA site.
Oooh. You mean the EPA is going to concern themselves with a possible contamination in Indiana?
I only mean this is the kind of thing the EPA could be concerned about.
If they're leaving it up IDEM, do you really think anyone is gonna care?
Do you think that would be true of nearly every industrial site? We cannot expect zero-impact industrialization, and in the past, there were few restrictions on waste and fewer who really cared. Fortunately, things are not so wide open now, and the impact is controlled. Remember the orange snow in Gary? I do. Next door to the Nipsco building on Greenwood, we used to play in the water-logged woods, laughing at the colors in the water--probably pcb waste! Cleaning up a few gas tank sites is small potatoes (or small beer, as they say in England), especially for a bank.
The chemicals used in the steel making process are every bit as toxic as those that come out of the refining process. Granted it isn't as bad as it used to be, but some of those sites are over 100 years old
I pulled a similar stunt when I was about 5. We lived on East 8th catty corner from Central School and I was in trouble for something, I can't remember what, so I hid in the laundry basket and covered up with the clothes, then promptly fell asleep. My mother looked in the closet but it didn't occur to her I was IN the dirty clothes. She was frantic. Did the same thing as this woman. People were scouring the neighborhood looking for me. After a couple hours I woke up, went to use the bathroom-none the wiser to what had been going on. When my mom heard the toilet flush she came flying into the bathroom in total hysterics. I'll never forget that.
Good that they found her safe and sound. Bad that they have to be in such a vigilant state.
That guy that escaped from Westville CC passed by a couple hours from here. He robbed a bank east of Gillette a couple days ago before he went up to Montana. They were talking about it on the news this morning. They didn't say he escaped from an Indiana prison, but they did say he was on America's Most Wanted. Then, I found the news paper article with the story.... Small world, huh?
Indiana wants me
Lord, I can't go back there
good local stuff, Ang
I mean it is interesting to read about this guy getting all the way out there and doing that stuff. Around here, this was big news, and I enjoyed getting more from over there. You know the ND is not gonna have that.
Cool. That's what I thought you meant.
I am a little irritated with the paper here that they didn't get the guy's name right, nor did they spell Merrillville correct. I'm tempted to write to them about it.
Hey, you know I don't get upset about spelling and grammar, but a newspaper should be accurate.
Incidentally, that is how people pronounce Merrillville. This is another example of why English spelling is standardized in spite of pronunciation. Can you imagine trying to spell phonetically if we agree to go by the local pronunciation? We would be unable to read what North Carolinian mountain folk wrote. Or imagine the difference in the orthography when Geo. Bush changes from his regular accent to his Down Home Texas routine (another way to know when he is lying, by the way).
You're kinda right on the pronunciation thing. I said Merrillville over and over a few times, and while I do pronounce the L's, it's very slight and I can see how someone might miss them. STILL. It would be like if someone spelled your name Kapootnick. One should ask for the spelling... I always do. Even if the name is Smith, cause it could be spelled Smyth
anyone else with bad allergies lately?
Funny you should mention that. I know it's probably moot since I'm in Wyoming, but MAN, I've been having it bad. I need to put new washers in my nose cause it's dripping like crazy, and my eyes are on fire all the time. Plus, the sneezes that come in triplicate every couple hours... I won't take anything for it because I believe it's the parmaceutical companies that are making us sick so they can get richer. So, I keep a supply of tissue handy and suffer through it. But, I've had it really really bad the last week or so.
I just finished reading Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. I cried through the last three chapters. Oh, how sad that Dumbldore was killed. I'll be starting the Deathly Hallows soon and I'm hoping for some sort of return of Dumbledore. You never know what could happen in the wizarding world. If any one has read, DON"T tell me!
Happy Monday everyone. From what I've heard about your weather, I hope you all got out your row-boats and life jackets! I won't tell you about our beautiful weather here, don't want to upset you. Well, have a wonderful day and stay dry.
Its just Ark building weather...
I'm taking half a day today to drive to South Dakota and get my son for the holiday weekend. I am so excited. I miss that boy!! I can't wait to hear all the details of what life is like living at Job Corps. We talk on the phone, but so far all he does is complain (typical teenager!). I just listen with my "Mommy Ears" tell him to look on the bright side. He may have structure and discipline (They even tell me what time to take a shower!!), but at least he gets to wear what he wants. I remind him that he could be in bootcamp instead preparing to go to Iraq to fight (?) in a senseless war. It doesn't help, though, he still complains. So, before I go, I am going to hang the "No Complaining!" sign on the door.
So did anyone go to this years Labor Dayz?
I was there before I went on a run that Friday evening and then Saturday morning. LULAC food was good, other stuff looked good but I did not have anything else. Sat morn was too early to get anything. I did hear the popcorn guy by LULAC going off on Joe Doyle about low traffic and not enough advertising in Fipistan.
Roger started a pet peeve thread, and I have a huge one, but I didn't want to put it in Roger's pet peeve thread, since it's mine and not his , so I thought I would put it here.
I hate people who do not have conversations on the phone, they text instead. Wouldn't it be so much easier to pick up the phone, dial a number and have a 10 minute conversation than to spend an hour texting back and forth to say the same thing? I met this guy who wants to date me, but instead of picking up the phone and calling me, he will only text. If I try to call him, he won't answer. Then a few minutes later he'll send a text asking me what I wanted. So impersonal!!
I realize there are times when you only want to pass along a message and texting is convenient then. But to only converse through texting is childish and immature IMO.
Its a mindset, and part of it is generational. Our parents generation thought nothing of walking a couple blocks to meet with someone, and thought calling was rude or unnecesary. Heck half of the time I am way better with email and internet than I am on the phone, because of either bad signals or being at work. If he seems like a good guy, I wouldn't think too much of it. If he is really a jerk, you will see it manifest in other forms, and then you will know it isn't just a quirk.
I found this this morning. No wonder Indiana teens are dropping like flies......
You'll have to click the link to read the actual affidavit.
How did this woman get a license to procreate??
Nor continuing education.
We have a new version of spammers. At least it's not offers of naked celebrities! These new spams are job offers. I have been deleting them because they are spam, but if anyone is interested in seeing them, speak up and I won't delete them. Otherwise, as soon as I see them, they will be gone. Most likely, the job offers are not legit and are instead some type of scam. Anyway, let me know...
Yeah, pretty much there is no way of stopping spam on the message boards, short of shutting down all new registrations, so it will pop up from time to time. If i see anything, I delete and ban the accounts and their emails. Thanks for your patience!
Where is everyone? This place is like a ghost town.
I'm around, but studying for the Series 7 in my "free" time.
Its an exam given by the SEC over a broad based knowledge of the securities industry, its history, and mostly the rules and regulations that go with it, and its products.
And let me tell you its every bit as fun as it sounds.
Sounds like...fun.
I just want to say a quick Hello and Welcome to our newbies. I've noticed a couple of you out there and just wanted to take a moment to acknowledge you.
I hope you enjoy this place and come here often. We are not prejudiced here and look forward to your input. Even though we all come from different walks of life and have a broad spectrum of opinions, we are all friends and we welcome you.
Welcome, newbs, and spread the link to your contacts.
Okay, this is a new one and it really frosts me!! I've started getting SPAM text messages on my phone!!!! I got online and looked up the place that's sending them and it's some direct marketing firm in Germany!!! I had Jeeves translate the page and it was so poorly put into English that I could hardly understand what they mean. An example was to spell "more" as "moor" UGH!!! My mom is calling Verizon today to see how to stop that. Has anyone else had this problem?
Ew. Hopefully you aren't on a pay by text plan... That sounds like a nightmare.
I have the unlimited "IN" texting and 500/mo. out of network, and I don't text a whole lot, so it isn't costing me money. It's just a pain in the arse to get spam texts. How rude!!
Funny story, I just came accross this article on MSNBC today.
Even funnier is that I know one of the people mentioned in the article... small world.
http://redtape.msnbc.com/2007/09/text-spam-for-s.html
Hey, thanks for the story. I'm going to call Verizon and ask them to disable internet texting. It will be a little inconvenient as I often email myself pictures I take with my phone, but that inconvenience is a whole lot better than SPAM texts. I guess I'll just have to carry my camera around with me like I used to do before I got a picture phone.
If you do not open the text, are you still charged?
another rip-off
If you haven't gotten down to Coulter pumpkin farm in Westville yet, make the trip... Its well worth it. They have pony rides, a mini-corn maze, and other activities for the really little ones, plus a full size corn maze for adults. There is also plenty of fresh produce, such as tomatoes and the like to be had. They also have a lot of Garwood products such as apples and cider. Then of course they have pumpkins and gourds of all shapes and sizes, at very good prices. The trip can be made very cheap with kids, as there is no admissions charge and plenty to do for free.
That corn maze is pretty cool. We went a couple years ago and got lost in the maze. My kids were scared to death. We took a hay ride to get to the maze. We were the last tour of the day, plus it was overcast. The kids were afraid we'd still be there after dark and the scarecrows would come get us. They had hot apple cider for after the maze. It was a really neat experience. So, if you have kids between 4 and 14 they would really dig and I recommend it.
sounds like fun

BTW Happy Birthday Jenny
Tuesday, October 16th we broke two weather records in one day. We broke the record for the low temperature (24 degrees) and we broke the record for the high temperature (69 degrees) in the same day.
We got our first snow finally. It was a little late this year. Usually we have snow on the ground by the first week of October. It always melts away within a day or so. But I wanted to share with you what I woke up to yesterday morning....
Hunting season must be opening soon there.
Hunting season started almost a month ago. They start with bow, then gun, and they have certain weeks for certain game. It's all very complicated and confusing if you ask me. My bro-in-law is an avid hunter. He goes every weekend from the first day of bow season, to the last day of Elk season.
We're (Admin team) playing with skins and colors trying to come up with themes. Some of them are pretty horrible and others look real cool. You can check out our attempts by going to the bottom left of the page and you'll see a box with a drop arrow that says IPB Default Skin. Click the arrow and you can select the skin you want.
Remember, this is work in progress and SSder and I are still trying to figure it all out. Feel free to comment, but please be merciful.
Suggestions are welcome also.
The Default is by far the easiest to read and follow.
Check out the large font skin. I didn't change any colors, just increased the font sizes a little.
Indiana firearms starts Nov 17. This year one may use a rifle that uses pistol cartridges, e.g., .44 magnum.
Roger, this one's for you....
Just another example of Idiots Out Wandering Around (IOWA):
Well, well, well.
1. Why was the man getting the bird? Isn't that what the dogs do?
2. Were the dogs related to Veep Cheney?
3. Why didn't the man open the action when he left his gun?
4. Maybe the dogs missed...?
5. Did he have permission to go on the other side of the fence?
6. What about his buddies? Where were they?

I wonder if he will be neutered.
That ND website really irritates me!! They always have some sort of glitch. A couple weeks ago I had to double click the back button, yesterday I had to hit refresh to get every page to load and today it's not giving me anything at all. It says "done" at the bottom, but the page never loads. I hit refresh, the page never loads.
I don't even know why I bother going there sometimes!!
Do you mean SOMETIMES you wonder or SOMETIMES you go there?
I hear the HA is the place to go. I also heard that the SB Trib has as much MC news as the ND.
SS, this morning I heard stuff about the ND and HA being owned by the same company--about half the HA staff may lose jobs...what gives?
This stinks. The coverup is worse.
Well, winter is definitely settling upon us here in Casper, Wyoming. Yesterday and today we've had 40-50 mph sustained winds with 60-75 mph gusts. Winter in Wyoming should be renamed as Wind-er.
Hyuk-hyuk-hyuk. How is the hunting going? Did Brother get anything yet?
Oh yeah. He got an 8-point elk, my nephew got a 9-point atypical (bigger than my bros) but my sis didn't get one. She's rather disappointed. I told her she could go for an antelope but when they last went out they didn't see a thing--not even a bear. Nothing. I asked her about small game and she said the only thing they saw was other hunters. Bummer.
When I posted this morning about the wind, it was 57 degrees. Now that the wind has stopped the temp is 32 and it's snowing! I don't know which is worse.
Damn, that sounds a lot like Chicago springs
Here is a little game: You have to post a word that starts with the last letter of the previous word. For example, I say lawyer, you say rat...
Here is my word: KICK.
Knickerbocker.
Rink.
I do not mean to hijack the thread. If you are playing, and I hope everyone does, just put your word at the top of your post, or at the bottom in parentheses.
(Rink)
Kangaroo
Ox.
Xylophone
Who had snowflakes this morning? I did, near Arndt's Orchard.

Here is a suggestion: Put your word in double parantheses to clearly denote it as an entry.

It coming down in a slushy/sleety mix when I got on the train at 5 am. Darn was it COLD!
I am wondering how the weather will be on Saturday in the tree stand as deer firearms season opens.
((hex))
It's warm here today. In the upper 50's, but windy (as usual). Next week it's only supposed to be in the 20's. aaarrrrgggghhh!!!!
((halogen))
I think that man really needs to be in a locked psychiatric unit...not just a correctional facility.
((eclectic))
The fact that he had escaped another facility should automatically put him in the Class 4 type restrictions. Now he has a bunch of WY charges on him, in addition to the IN ones.
I was hoping Ang would have the Wyoming skinny for us.
((crag))
Aside from what I posted today, there hasn't been much else about the guy. But, I'll keep my eyes and ears open for more info. Cheyenne is the state capital and 180 miles from here, so we only get details when the news is "spectacular." This was just a little blurb. Evidently the Star Trib doesn't find much interesting about ol' Mr. Fuller.
((gregarious))
Well, just how many madmen from Hoosierland do you get over there?
((sin))
So far I think it's just me and that other guy.
I just got some news I'd like to share. My son has completed his Job Corps training in just under 4 months!! That just goes to show it's not my kid who had a problem learning, it's the schools that had a problem teaching! Anyway, he has got his GED, Serve-safe Certification (which is a food service thing to properly prepare and handle food) and completed his culinary training. He's coming home tonite! I've got to pick him up at the bus station at 3:30 am (UGH!). Since he completed his training, he will get a $1200 bonus, which he plans to use to buy a beater car to get around town. With the Serve-safe Cert. and culinary training completion, he'll be able to get a job at a restaurant in the kitchen. He'll probably have to start out as a prep-cook but, as he said, it's a foot in the door.
I'm so proud of him!!!
((notorious))
congrats to son!! I am very interested in cooking, esp. in a professional kitchen. I will be very keen on knowing how he does.
((sex))
Congrats, Ang! Sounds like he's doing really well.
((x-ray))
Thank you all. He's so happy to be home. We haven't had much of a chance to talk as I had to go back to bed as soon as we got home (I was still and hour and half late this morning -but I cleared it with my boss yesterday). I'm off the Friday after Thanksgiving, so I'm going to take the boy around town to apply for restaurant jobs. We're also going to sit down and I will teach him how to prepare a resume and balance a check book. Oh, the joys of parenting. I wouldn't trade it for anything and am really excited at the prospect of teaching him to be an adult.
Guess who's making dinner tonite?
((Yellowstone))
You'll have to let us know how he does with cooking.
((ecological))
Lint
Telemarketer
I saw this on Snopes.com. Go to www.freerice.com and if you guess the correct definition for the given word, the place will donate rice to hungry nations. For each word you get correct, they donate 10 grains of rice. I know it doesn't sound like a lot, but it adds up. I just donated 400 grains.
If you want to read about it, it is in the What's New section on Snopes.
Rice donations aside, it is fun to play the word game and see how well your vocabulary is.
((replay))
Is your son cooking for Thanksgiving? Being a bit of an amateur cook, I would like to know what he is doing.
((yutz))
Yes he is, although he doesn't know it yet. Tomorrow I plan to do the food shopping and let him prepare the menu. I do know that we're only going to get a turkey breast, but the rest of the food is going to be up to him. We "celebrated" Thanksgiving last Sunday with the whole family since my sis and her fam are going to Loveland, CO to visit her in-laws and my Dad has to work on Thanksgiving. So, it will just be me, my kids and my mom Thursday. I was thinking of going to Montana for the long weekend, but then scored a painting job for Saturday so no trip out of town for me. I'd rather stay here and make a little extra cash.
I'll have him put together a menu tonite and let you know tomorrow what he's planning.
((zealot))
great
((tax))
Okay, he's going to season the turkey breast and bake it in a terra-cotta simmer pot that I have. He is going to make mashed potatos-seasoned with garlic and onion, a vegetable medley (all fresh-cut veggies-no frozen or canned), cranberry fruit salad, some side dish made with pasta and tomato juice, and a cherry pie for dessert.
Yum, yum, yum. My belly is growling just thinking about this delicious meal that I don't have to cook!
((xenophobia))
Could he write up his recipes?
((ax))
Sure, I'll ask him to do that, but I don't think you'll get them in time for TG. I'm sure they will go well with a Christmas meal, though.
((xanga))--in case you're wondering about that, I am running out of "X" words, so I googled it. No more "X" words for a while please.
Any time is great. In the meantime, I am looking for my recipe for the best lentil soup ever made. Maybe recipes can be a new thread.
((angst)
That would be a good idea. If anyone can get the recipe for rosemarina soup from Dino's restaurant, I'd greatly appreciate it.
((tommyknocker))

Okay, we all have them: that hard to buy for person on your Christmas list. The one who you usually buy for last because you really can't think of WHAT to get for them. Well, now you can find the gift you need with ease, never having to leave the comfort of your computer chair!
www.stupid.com has it all.

What a great Thanksgiving... how about them COWBOYS!
When are the sports fans here going to start ranting about the Big Ten Network and the NFL Network?
No Dallas-Green Bay game and not nearly enough IU basketball.
Its a greed contest between millionaires and billionaires. Its depressing more than anything, but it is the trend. I got to live the Sportsvision experience 20 years ago with the White Sox going to cable, while the Cubs thrived on regular TV. People forget that the Sox actually were the more popular team in Chicago during long stretches of time. The Cable versus WGN divergence was the biggest difference in their current bases. The Cubs were on TV every single day, while you had to pay to see the Sox, in a time when the cable saturation rates were under 50%. It made a difference.
The NFL network is really stupid for the same reason. One of the reasons the NFL is so successful is that there are games on the same days and the same nights every week, and they are always on TV, and easy to find. If they are going to start moving their premier products away from the general viewing audiences they are going to lose the casual fan, much like the White Sox did during the late 1980's.
If you want another case study in TV, look no further than the mess that is the Chicago Blackhawks, and their home blackout history. It will take them years to recover from that mess.
It has already happened. Look at Monday Night Football: Sunday Night Football is the new MNF because of the big, accessible audience. The NFL is already fractionating (great word, huh?) their audience by adding the Thursday and Saturday games. For a cautionary example, the NFL needs to study the rise and fall of the NHL and NBA.
((loquacious))
The NHL is a really good example too. Between canceling the Stanley Cup to a strike, and putting their games on a no-name network that no one has on their cable system, they have been the poster child for how to make a nation forget about their sport.
NHL. What's that?
((sexy))
The Big Ten is slicing its own throat by going closed-network. It is hard enough to follow IU, and now it is going to be extra-hard.
Why can't they just air the games on the more widely available networks like they used in the "good old days"?

According to one of the headlines on Drudge, the gift card craze has now moved into healthcare. If you care enough to give the very best, give a doctor visit.
Health care gift cards? I can understand giving one to a pharmacy, but seriously...this should be a HUGE red flag for our government, letting them know that our system is seriously flawed and needs immediate reform. Sheesh...
SSder and BioTeach are in the process of having baby number two as I type. For all you praying folks, please send a prayer for them to have zero complications and a healthy, happy baby.
I'm sure SSder will check in with us and let us all know how things went as soon as he can, but we probably won't see much of him for a couple days. Meantime, Moderator JHeath and I are here for any issues you guys might have.
((zebra))

As one of the non-praying folks, I'm wishing them good luck as well!
I sure hope they remember to have full scale birthday celebrations for the newby, having one's birthday the day after Christmas would have to kinda suck.
And when do we get to see pix on here of the newest CBTL member???

Everyone make it through the wind storm ok?
((comatose))
It's ALWAYS windy where I live. Wind is just part of the winter weather. My first winter took some getting used to because a storm doesn't follow the wind here. Typically, November through February, we have 30-40 mph sustained wind with 50-70 mph gusts. Some days are worse, some are better, but it's always windy.

Well there is good news, and not-so-good news for us.
First off is the good news.
Alexis Christine Gresham, the latest addition to our family was born 12-27 at 12:27 am. She was 7 pounds even, and 19 inches even. She even came in with a head full of hair.
The not-so-good news is that she has had a couple of issues that worried the staff at St Anthony's so they wanted to send her to a facility that actually had a neo-natal intensive care unit, who specialized more in patients her size. They sent her over too Valpo/Porter Memorial Hospital where she has been the last couple of days. The great staff at our hospital caught her quit breathing twice in her first morning, which isn't all that uncommon. For those that don't know, babies come into this world a totally clean slate. They have no idea how to do things that we take for granted, like breathing, regulating temperature, eating etc. Well she stopped breathing a couple of times, and also seemed to have some circulation problems, as one of her arms turned a little blue. The doctors and staff at Porter-Memorial have been great as well. They have done a bunch of tests to rule out what could be wrong, and so far all the tests have come back with good news. It sounds like even if it is a worst case scenario, it will be something that the baby grows out of, so long term it won't affect her a bit.
It has been stressful commuting between MC and Valpo, and deciding how to split time between our two young children. Madison, our oldest, just turned two in November, and while extremely smart and perseptive, probably isn't ready to see her baby sister hooked up to IVs and wires, so she has stayed at home, while being watched by aunts and grandparents. I am staying home today with her, while mom goes up to be with the new baby.
Wish us luck, and think of us if you can. Hopefully little Alexis will be getting full clearance to go home soon, and this will all be done.
How was her L/S ratio? Heart chambers ok? I will pray for your family with hopes that all is well. Beautiful name, too.
((tryst))
Baby Alexis is coming home today with a clean bill of health! Pretty much all of her problems fixed themselves, which is the best news of all.
Yeah!!! I've been praying for her, too. Glad to know that our prayers were answered and God is looking out for you two and your little one.
On a side note;
SSder and Bioteach: Amanda told me to tell you congrats! She's very happy for you guys, but said that now you need to try for a boy.
I think the kids are all here and accounted for... The bank is now closed
Great news! I am very happy for you.
Mmmmmm. I just had a grilled ham & cheese and pickles. I love pickles!
((tintinabulation))
Pickles? Like a good kosher dill...?
((nocturnal))
Most definitely a kosher dill!! Those are the only kind worth eating IMO.

I advocate the alimentation of the following two:
1...Grilled cheese, served with a thin spread of peanut butter on top.
2...The Punjab special: Fried egg, slice of cheese, and peanut butter, on tasted English muffin.

Home from school. PB & J fried in butter until the PB is runny. Cold cold COLD milk. Sitting in front of the TV, tuned to UHF channels 44 and 32, just in time to see "Felix the Cat," Speedracer," then "Captain America," followed closely by "Ironman".
The only thing that could have made it better would have been if "The BJ and Dirty Dragon Show" had been aired on weekdays. "FIIEEEE!"
I guess it's the cartoons that make the sandwich.
I LOVE that show. Also, H.R. Puffenstuff.
I also like fried bologna, but with mustard instead.

I can't believe the amount of water all over town right now. I went over Trail Creek on Highway 20 out by Hammers, and it looked like a river. Water was flowing all of the way up the banks and into the tree line. The flow had to be 30 feet wide yesterday. Drainage ditches and the like are just busting full right now. Hopefully everyone's basements are OK.
I heard on GMA this morning that currently, Indiana is the worst it's been in YEARS for flooding. Like breaking records all over the place. The Tippecanoe over-flowed its banks and some guy drowned. But, from Kentucky to Michigan, Indiana has record flooding all over the place. I was going to ask you guys about that this morning.
((never-never-land))
We received 1.21 inches of rain on the 7th, and 1.62 inches on the 8th. If that had been snow, yikes!
My favorite local weather site:
http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=41.712%2C-86.899
They have info from lots of local weather stations, including one at the Beecher, which is about three blocks from my house.
