Our other quiz keeps dying - so I'm starting a new one. Only one rule - if a question goes more than 48 hours you must provide the answer so the quiz doesn't get bogged down - which is what keeps happening to the other one. You can ask a question while another question is being asked - you can ask your question again. If your question gets lost in other questions you can ask it again. Okay? I'll start!
Where was Albano's located before they moved to their present location? PS No idea how this will work - and I'm not suggesting a boycott of the other quiz. It sits there for days, and I have a feeling some of us would like to play this game a little quicker. Play both! |

"Bor"? Set down the sake, Kimosabe! Old Albano's, in 1700 block of Franklin (see above). "Bor"???? What the hey? No idea where the 1700 block of Franklin is. I think you're close - or even right - but since you bluffed/guessed about the old M&M location - and failed - I think you're still guessing. What was the business directly south of the old Albano's, Rog old buddy? |

Marquette Theater The Lido My question: Who was Michigan City's first permanent resident? Marquette Theater had a balcony? Really? My band actually played there once - and I vividly remember looking out from the stage - no balcony. However, you may be right - can you jog my memory on that? If the Marquette theater indeed had a balcony, which other MC theater had a balcony? Correct on The Lido. I remember when Deep Throat appeared there - no, of course I didn't go. But my dad, who was mayor at the time, had it banned. My sister and I were all up in his.... stuff about people's rights. He was like "People have a right to go to a different city to see it." *rolls eyes* First perm. resident - Isaac. C. Elston - though that's a WAG. |

Maybe it wasn't Marquette. That was a guess. I do remember going to the movie and sitting in the balcony, but I may have been wrong about which theater it was.
Wrong on the City's first permanent resident. Major Elston was the town founder, but he was not a "permanent resident" until later. Any other takers? Here's a hint, he has the same surname as one of our CBTL members. Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind~Dr. Suess

Easy - what year did the Red Devil basketball team win state?
Easy - who was their coach? Bonus - one player on this team had a rabbit-inspired nickname. What was it? |

QUOTE History credits Samuel Miller of Chicago with being Michigan City's first permanent resident. A former trader, hotel keeper and member of the first board of commissioners when Cook County, Ill., was formed, he came here shortly after the war against Black Hawk and became Major Elston's agent. He also is known as the first merchant, first postmaster and first warehouseman in Michigan City. Miller first occupied a cabin where the Northern Indiana Public Service Co.'s generating station guard house now stands. He then built a handsome house in 1834 on Jernegan Hill, overlooking Eighth Street between Michigan Boulevard and Walker Street, for his bride, Emily Kimberly of this city. for more info: http://www.mclib.org/ourheri1.htm Tim, I am surprised you did not know this! We had a new car then, and my father did not want to put a big sticker on the shine, so he cut out the devil from the wrapper of a can of Deviled Ham, and he stuck that in the corner of the windshield.
