I am in Casper. If you took 90 west, then you passed about 2 1/2 hrs north of my town. If you took 80 west to 25 north, then you passed about 1/2 mile north of my house. (I-25 actually runs east/west between Douglas and Casper). I think you and I stood in the same spot cause I have almost the exact same pictures of Jackson Lake. Pretty cool, huh? That place is absolutely breathtaking!! Are you guys still there or did you recently get back? I wish I would have known you were going, I would have sent you in search of this... I went the first week of August two years ago. Man!! I was cold at night! You found my uncle Wayne! We missed that particular piece of Americana. We took 90 to 16 to 14 to West Yellowstone. Then 89 to 189 to 191 to 80 on the way back. You mentioned the fires, so here you go. Here are a progression of photos as we approached and then passed by Cody. We traveled through a mountain wildfire, and the dark one is supposed to be of a Lodgepole Pine that burst into flames about 50 yards from the car. The troopers let us through, but we did not waste anytime getting out of the car to set up for a night shot. Actually, it was unreal, like something from Disney World, the mountains lit up by thousands of bright red dots. The last picture is from Mt Washburn in Yellowstone. You can see the fires in Yellowstone in the distance. They were not really an issue the five days we spent there. Yellowstone: "The country needs and, unless I mistake its temper, the country demands bold, persistent experimentation. It is common sense to take a method and try it: If it fails, admit it frankly and try another. But above all, try something."

I am amazed by how much green is actually still there. We did have a lot of rain in June, which may account for why it's still green there.

Here is a shot from 2006 of the Grand Tetons when I went. This was taken on the Jackson Hole side of the Tetons. Notice how the grass is all brown at the lower part of the picture. It was taken July 31, 2006.

I just had to share these last few pictures of Yellowstone before calling it a day.
Whew. Now I have that out of my system and can go to sleep. "The country needs and, unless I mistake its temper, the country demands bold, persistent experimentation. It is common sense to take a method and try it: If it fails, admit it frankly and try another. But above all, try something."

Is that what that is? Gee, I thought it was metal tubes covered in snow. Man, I guess I need to relook at that picture.
