Buck scored twice and Mason Kaletha scored on a keeper. The team is taking the rest of the day off in the Magic Kingdom. Well deserved! That's awesome! Congrats to Mike Iacovetti, Scott Kaletha and the rest of the team. I think the Championship game will be televised? |

You're not a little partial to Max W., are you?
These boys are awesome--to be playing at this level at such a young age takes a lot of hard work and dedication from both the coaches and players. Great job, all! Best of luck in the next round tomorrow. btw, is that game being streamed live anywhere? |

QUOTE City Two Steps From National Title Junior Pee Wees 20, Ewa West Saints (Hawaii) 6 Adam Parkhouse Staff Writer LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - Michigan City Pop Warner Junior Pee Wee coach Mike Iacovetti never imagined his team would be in this position. But as long as they're there, why not win the whole thing? The Jr. Pee Wees moved one step closer to doing just that with a 20-6 Division II quarterfinal win over the Ewa West Saints (Hawaii) during Saturday's game in the Pop Warner Super Bowl at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex. "We knew we were a good team, but you don't know how good you really are," Iacovetti said. "But I never would have thought it." City now advances to play the Stanley Blue Devils (North Carolina), who beat the West Bay Rams (California) 34-12, at 8 a.m. CST Tuesday. City got off to a great start against Ewa West. Aryuan Cain-Veasey scored on a long run on City's first play from scrimmage to give his team the early lead. Cain-Veasey also scored again right before halftime, and City had a 14-0 halftime lead. Ewa West scored in the third quarter, but in the fourth City put the game away. Max Willoughby blocked a punt and City recovered at the 1-yard line. Mason Kaletha than jammed it in the end zone to account for the final score. "We're guaranteed at least the top four in the country," Iacovetti said. After the game, coaches allowed the kids to soak up the atmosphere and spring-like Florida temperatures. "We just decided to take it easy," Iacovetti said just moments after getting off the Tower of Terror ride at the MGM Theme Park. City will practice each of the next two days and will review film on their next opponent. Iacovetti also acknowledged how appreciative the team is for the sponsors back home that made their trip possible. In less than five days, the team was able to raise all the money needed to send the team on its week-long trip. "The community helped us a lot," Iacovetti said. "They took a big burden off the shoulders of a lot of people." Iacovetti said there are around 50 non-team members following the Wolves' national championship run. "We're gonna enjoy the atmosphere tonight and probably tomorrow," Iacovetti said. "Then Monday it's bask to business and we'll go back to doing what we do." You're not a little partial to Max W., are you? These boys are awesome--to be playing at this level at such a young age takes a lot of hard work and dedication from both the coaches and players. Great job, all! Best of luck in the next round tomorrow. btw, is that game being streamed live anywhere? First let me say that I've been video filming this team for the last two seasons, it's been an honor, everybody (coaches, parents, players, officials, administrators, etc.) have been really nice to me. Those kids just blow my mind every time they take the field. I can't wait to post all their game action highlights after the boys return home from Florida. Everyone of those kids are special, but the family dynamics of this team is extraordinary, in addition to our diversity, that's what I believe are our two biggest strengths. All five of our coaches has a son on the team which I find inspirational. Let me tell everyone about some of them: Max Willoughby's fellow teammates all tell me the the same thing, "Max like to hurt people." Max's older brother Nicholas is a star member of City's Pee Wee team and their dad Christopher is one of his coaches, the Willoughby's are kind of like the Manning's of Michigan City. All I can say is watch out DAC, the Willoughby's are coming. Of course I'm a strong supporter of the Cain-Veasey brothers , Aryuan and Reyquan, but everybody simply knows them better as "Buck" and "Ray Ray" along with their two cousins Markice "'Lil Mark" Hurt Jr. and Ja'Mierea "Nuke" Woodard (Nuke is the self proclaimed "Baddest Player On the Team"). Unfortunately, we lost Ray Ray for the season due to a serious foot injury right after the first week of the season but he's determined to come back stronger and better than ever next season. His older brother Buck has been Michigan City's best kept secret for the past four years (basically now, he's got five seasons of organized football playing experience and he's only 11 years old) but he's definitely no secret any more, Buck is just unbelievably gifted beyond belief and description, he's got serious aspirations of playing in the NFL. It does not stop either, their good buddy Noah Jones III is just an extraordinary, multi-skilled athlete on both sides of the ball and on special teams, Noah's older sister Jada is also down in Florida competing with the Pee Wee cheerleaders, she's quite an amazing acrobat. There's also the team's quarterback and linebacker Mason Kaletha, he's kind of the "brains" behind our offense. Mason and his father Coach Scott have a real special rapport with each other in the way they run the offense. Coach Scott tells me that the whole team has 120 different plays set to memory. I'll never forget last season Mason knocked a boy from La Porte unconscious, I believe he had to be rushed to St. Anthony's ER with a concussion, one of the most brutal hits I've ever seen at any level. Mason's older brother "Scotty" is one of the MVP's of City's Jr. Midget Team. Finally, there's Head Coach Mike Iaocovetti and his son Dominic, whenever I speak to Coach Mike he's a really easy going guy, but when he's on the sideline coaching our defense he's got a Ditka-like intensity about him. After a game his voice always becomes hoarse from yelling his instruction to the team. I also want to recognize our two team mom's Erica Iaocovetti and Gina Kaletha who have been instrumental in the teams fund raising efforts. The game will be streamed live via the National Pop Warner Website at www.popwarnersuperbowl.com at a cost of $5.99. A strong and speedy internet connection along with a PayPal account is required. They are also selling DVD's of all the games at the ridiculous rate of $40.00 per game. |

City is down 6-0 early in the second quarter. Appears that Stanley is loaded with "Older/Lighters". Which basically means we're going up against a Pee Wee team.

Dang. Well Congrats to the boys on a great season! I can't wait until they get their parade home. Great run boys!!! That game this morning was the one that decided the D2 JPW Champion, I know in all heart if we were placed in that lower bracket we would have been playing Stanley for the prize on Friday and since those guys from North Carolina were really nothing but a good Pee Wee team is disguise we would have still lost than one too, so as far as I'm concerned, WE'RE #1. I noticed that team from Detroit that eliminated our Jr. Midget's down in Indy 2 weeks ago were defeated this afternoon, while that Lee's Summit, MO squad that squeaked by our Pee Wee's up in Michigan last weekend advanced into the title round. |

Any word on what happened to the cheerleaders? Its unconfirmed, but I heard that they're ranked at 6th in the nation. Correction: Look for the Intermediate division results. They are 6th in this division at a National level. Cheer Results This post has been edited by JHeath: Dec 9 2009, 12:24 PM |

QUOTE Jr. Pee Wees end 'awesome ride' Adam Parkhouse Sports Editor, The News-Dispatch Tuesday morning's national semifinal game for Michigan City Pop Warner's Junior Pee Wee team may have had a couple of missed opportunities. But regardless of Tuesday's outcome, it would be ludicrous to label this as a missed opportunity. The Jr. Pee Wees fought valiantly against the Stanley Blue Devils of North Carolina, but wound up taking a 19-0 defeat at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. In advancing this far, this pack of Wolves advanced further than any Michigan City team that came before it. "This is no shame in what we've done," coach Mike Iacovetti said. "The boys were upset after the game, and I just told them, 'Hold your heads up.' "There's nothing to be ashamed of and be proud of what you've done." On City's opening possession, the Wolves advanced deep into Blue Devils territory before a holding penalty derailed the drive. The Blue Devils took possession and scored, taking a 6-0 lead. That score held until halftime, at which point Iacovetti and his coaches rallied the troops. "The boys were a little disappointed and we tried conveying the game was far from over," Iacovetti said. Stanley turned the ball over on its first possession of the second half, and Iacovetti thought that was a nice opening for his squad. But City turned it over right after that around midfield. "I figured if we could have scored we could have changed momentum," Iacovetti said. From there, the Blue Devils offense just wore down the Wolves' defense. "We couldn't get anything going offensively and our defense was on the field a lot," Iacovetti said. The Wolves have no more games this week, but they plan to stay in Florida and be home this weekend. "We knew we'd have to play a great game to beat them," Iacovetti said. "We just made some mistakes and you can't make mistakes against them." Iacovetti said he and the coaches thanked the players for taking them on this incredible ride. "We contributed to 19 kids' lives," Iacovetti said. "This is something they'll never forget. I'm proud to be a part of it. "I'm proud to be on this journey with them. It's been an awesome ride." |
