This article in today's PostTribune talks about how the Chief of Police in Gary will not go back to his alma mater after a recent "attempted" presentation there. How awful that a school has gotten so bad the Chief of Police refuses to return. How close are we to something like this in MCAS? Thoughts?

My sense is other school systems such as Chesterton, Valpo and especially La Porte simply do a better job of keeping the nonsense out of the newspapers. This statement is pretty much verified by a close friend of mine who was the "liason police officer" inside La Porte High School. He confirmed the administration at La Porte attemtps to keep the violence within their school out of the newspapers.
I suppose one solution would be to create a charter high school operated by MCAS - this high school would be for the students who want to learn while the other high school would be for those students who place little to no value on an education. The charter school could set higher expectations and standards possibly providing an opportunity for the students who wish to learn. |
