This article in today's PostTribune talks about how the Chief of Police in Gary will not go back to his alma mater after a recent "attempted" presentation there. How awful that a school has gotten so bad the Chief of Police refuses to return. How close are we to something like this in MCAS? Thoughts?

Grammy515, don't you feel that reporting a TEACHER getting FIRED for IMPREGNATING a STUDENT THIS SCHOOL YEAR is a bit irresponsible to report here? I've been around many school systems, and MCAS never hides its dirt...to its detriment, MCAS is brutally honest.
If you're acting out of civic duty you should report it formally. Start the investigation to the cover up. I mean, there must be one, right? If what you say really happened, how is it that NOONE, including people very close (and some in the school)knows about it? Are you sure you're doing the right thing? You're saying a teacher was fired THIS YEAR for getting a student pregnant. Are you 100% sure? 100%? I hope to all that is right, that you are repeating gossip or rumor. I know people, reliable people, at the High School, and none them report the firing of ANY teacher this year. Are you sure? A teacher? A current student? Pregnant? 100%? Don't take this personally, but I sure hope you're wrong! Buy Local!

With all due respect, what MCAS have YOU been paying attention to? Cute...this one, of course! What do you know that we haven't read about? Every fight and arrest is published, all results are published. I know the N-D is "just doing its job", but most of what I read in the paper is negative. Chesterton and Valpo are nowhere near as honest as MCAS. What are the cover-ups? How is it that everyone has dirt on the school system, but no one will expose the facts? As business owners we try SO EFFIN HARD to promote Michigan City, and our own people publish this negative stuff on the web for all to see. If you were a casual net surfer and googled Michigan City or MCAS what do you think you'd read? Eventually, you'd come across blogs like this one (which, generally, is awesome and positive and a good source of info), but how hard would you search for the truth once you read something negative? Each little negative dig taints the work most of us are doing! We have many issues and much to fix. Should the intelligent people on this board contribute to harmful hearsay? I hope not. Think about how the legacies of celebrities who did amazing things in their jobs are tainted by negative stories. What they did/do was/is amazing, but their indiscretions shine so much brighter...particularly athletes. In this Wiki world, the first answer/search result is satisfactory and complete to most. If you look at our school system, the demographics, the level of education of the parents, the transience, the expanding Special Ed. population, and the general attitude toward school, you'd see how hard their job is! Why should this board contribute to that struggle? Reporting an alleged teacher/student relationship and a firing for it without any corroboration is slightly irresponsible and largely detrimental to progress at MCAS. (Especially Grammy, whom I believe is VERY close to the School Board- ) Can't we please be part of a solution here? Please? I have children here, a business here, and I love MC. We need some civic pride, responsibility, and to build some loyalty to our community. I believe in MC, despite the N-D article comments. We need to fight for our schools, our police, our firefighters, and our neighbors--who are made up of current and former students, teachers, administrators, business owners, and our families.
