A new gauge of the Northwest Indiana economy suggests activity is hovering around 1992 levels, and shows no signs of turning around quickly. Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report the NWI Index indicates a stagnant regional economy since January.

The index is a project at Indiana University Northwest's School of Business and Economics. It is being funded by a Lilly Sustaining Fellowship Grant.

Stagnant isn't all that bad of a thing. Before you can have growth, you have to stop the shrinking. If we have hit bottom, that means recovery should be ready to start.

I agree. I own real estate in southern California, and I'd step over my mother in the street to hear someone tell me the RE market there is stagnant.
