“What I'll do”

Vote for Vision; Vote Nancy

Successful communities create vibrant economies when government, business, and education collaborate together. My greatest strength is an ability to bring together diverse groups of people and organizations to produce results. I am running for mayor out of my genuine concern for and deep commitment to a high quality of life for our community. This is no ordinary campaign; I’m in a race with and for the people of Michigan City’s future.

My vision is to strengthen the collaboration between these three vital elements to create a sound and successful future for our community. My administration will build and expand on the many exciting initiatives already in process while recognizing that the challenges our community faces must be addressed head on. Our community will grow by promoting local business, expanding the tax base, creating jobs, and will do so in a sustainable manner that enhances and capitalizes on our magnificent natural assets.

Economic Development
I WILL:

*Attract new businesses and jobs, including hi tech and green industries, to our community as priority number one by branding ourselves as the “Green City of Northern Indiana”
*Continue to stimulate the establishment of small businesses and entrepreneurial ventures while working to retain and grow existing businesses

*Bring our community together to promote adult literacy and a healthy life style so we can offer business and industry an educated and drug free work force

*Optimize and develop our unique natural resources to attract businesses that place a priority on quality of life
*Think globally; yet act locally, regionally, and nationally for economic vitality

Sound Government
I WILL:

*Establish a Task Force made up of key decision makers from government, business, and education to establish clear goals and benchmarks for our community. These will become reality.

*Invest in the future growth and economic development of our community

*Have a waste free administration so municipal employees can continue to grow their careers and so projects are completed as efficiently as possible
*Communicate visions, projects, and issues so our citizens are informed and encouraged to participate

*Focus on Opportunities: Adult Literacy, Beat Crime, Children Matter, Drug Free

High Quality Education
I WILL:

*Create a community-wide Special Project of mentoring and volunteering to encourage our children and families
*Remain committed to open and regular dialogue between the Mayor’s Office and Michigan City Area Schools, community-based organizations, and neighborhood centers
*Support the outstanding leadership of Dr. Barbara Eason-Watkins and other family advocacy leaders in producing positive educational outcomes
*Remember in everything we undertake and desire, it’s we, NOT me; it’s us, NOT them

Summary

Michigan City has long been a precious stone in the rough. We’ve been shaping our gem for many years. It’s now time to finish cutting it, polish its facets, and showcase it proudly as the sparkling jewel of Northern Indiana and the Great Lakes.
