Man rescued from Tippecanoe River after kayak flips By: NewsCenter16 Staff Posted: Wed 12:49 PM, Jul 10, 201 A LaPorte County man was pulled from the Tippecanoe River by some quick thinking personnel at the Tippecanoe River State Park near Winamac. 65-year-old Walt Krzyzak and his wife were kayaking, when his kayak hit something underwater and flipped over. Krzyzak was thrown into the river, and was able to hang on until help arrived. Visitors heard Krzyzak's cries for help and contacted personnel in the state park. Indiana Conservation Officer Jeff Richwine responded to the scene with his patrol boat and along with the assistance of Mike Manion, the two were able to rescue Krzyzak from the river unharmed. Officer Richwine, said Krzyzak had a lifejacket in his possession, but wasn't able to get to it from the kayak. Richwine said the accident could have been prevented if he was wearing his life jacket. |

"Richwine said the accident could have been prevented if he was wearing his life jacket."
The kayak wouldn't have flipped over if he'd been wearing a life vest? |

Inflatables don't have that kind of a problem. Also convenient: you can stick them in a trunk. |
