Just browsing at work, reminiscing about the hometown, and while reading up about the Blizzard in 1958, I saw something about an archeological dig by Elston in 2003?
Curious, I did some searching and found the "Final research report"posted on the IU/PU web site: http://www.ipfw.edu/archsurv/ROI_308_lowres.pdf It's pretty interesting and has lots of well documented information about MC, as well as the Old Graveyard that was right under Elston. The first page states that it's not intended for public disclosure (why put it on a web site?) but since they exist because of my tax dollars, I'm "disclosing" it. |

Thanks Dan for sharing that with us. It's very interesting (and long) I read most of the first part, but will have to save the rest for later. I especially like the history part. There's good fodder for future quiz questions in there...

Downloaded the report and skimmed it. Really neat stuff! Of course, I have an undergrad in Anthropology and I'm into historical stuff, so YMMV.
I do have a question, maybe someone on here could suggest something for me. I was out walking the dog the other day and I came across a bone. One of the neighbors was digging a hole to put in a footer for some steps and apparently came across it. I took it home and looked on the internet -- it looks to be too big to be a turkey leg bone. To my highly untrained eye it could be an ulna. Is there anyone nearby who could just look at it and tell? (I called the police non-emergency number, told them, and never heard back. I'm guessing it's pretty low priority these days, too much going on.) |

I agree that it looks like a human leg bone. My mom is an x-ray tech, I'll see if I can get a hold of her to look at it.

Mom looked at the pics and said it is not human. She believes it to be the upper forleg of some type of animal, perhaps a dog and that the bone is upside down in the pic. So the flat part is the bottom and the rounded part is the top of the bone.
