MICHIGAN CITY - A house owned by Franciscan St. Anthony's Health - Michigan City on the corner of Ripley and Wabash has been demolished to make room for a little greenspace.

"We left the three major trees and the area is going to be landscaped as a spot that the neighborhood residents and staff can go and sit in a designed green space," Franciscan Alliance Facilities Director Bill Blevins said. "A statute of St. Joseph will be moved to the site also."

Crews began razing the home Tuesday morning and made quick work of the old two-story frame built home. By mid-day the only thing left was a pile of rubble.

Blevins said Lakeshore Landscaping is in the process of coming up with a design, which they hope to complete in three weeks. "Once completed it will be reviewed with the sisters here at St. Anthony for their input. Lakeshore is donating their time and material to create the garden area," he said.
