10. After being completely shutout of county-wide offices, the Republican Party wins key offices, including Sheriff and a County Commissioner's office.

9. Mount Baldy spent all of 2014 closed, after the 2013 incident which caused its full shutdown.

8. 5 year old Amareon Williams died at Tricia's Daycare in June after not being supervised for a period of time. Charges were filed against at least three employees, and a civil suit was filed.

7. The Art Space project saw approval of Grant-based funding on its third attempt. Construction is due to begin in January 2015 on the Warren Building's revitalization.

6. The Great Lakes Grand Prix signed a five year extension to keep the race in Michigan City through at least 2019.

5. Marquette's boys basketball team wins the 1A state Championships at Indianapolis, behind a huge game from Providence commit Ryan Fazekas.

4. With a history that goes back over 100 years, the Issac C Elston campus was shuttered at the end of the 2013-2014 school year due to huge budget cuts in the Michigan City Area Schools.

3. The Lake Michigan Gateway Action Plan was passed by a 9-0 vote of the City Common Council, along with approval by numerous boards, and recommendations for many other bodies. $22 million was allocated to re-imagine and re-shape the Trail Creek corridor and northern end of Michigan City though the end of the decade.

Confidential conversations were overheard on two different occasions by multiple legal entities including local police and the prosecuting attorney's office, resulting in the setting of alleged killer Brian Taylor free, and a lawsuit from John Larkin resulting from the investigation into the alleged murder of his wife.

1. For the second year in a row, it was the story of a potential tragedy that brought out the hero side of Michigan City. In the worst winter in decades, Michigan City made national news for a horrific looking accident January 23rd on I-94, in which 3 people died, and dozens of vehicles were involved. Local fire, police, and rescue personnel labored through bitter cold, heavy lake effect snow, and a chaos of twisted metal to rescue many people and keep the tragic losses to a minimum. After the incident many community members stepped forward to aid and support people caught up in the accident.
