The Michigan City Family YMCA is currently accepting player registrations and volunteer applications for their Challenger Little League Baseball program, Angels in the Field. Children with special needs, ages 5-21, are eligible to play, and the cost is $30 for the season (includes uniform, base picture package, and some equipment). The season is set to begin on Sunday, April 29th, at 6pm, at Congon Park in Trail Creek.
For more information, please contact Chris Blake at the MC Family YMCA at 219-872-9622. Please remember, no family will be turned away due to inability to pay. |

Our season kicks off this weekend with two home openers against the Challenger little leaguers from Portage.
These games will be Sunday, 06/17 at 6pm at Congdon Park in Trail Creek. Hopefully, we'll draw at least a small crowd. |

We're down to our last two weeks of the season. This year, we've played in Chesterton, Portage, and Merrillville, with about 25 kids (or two teams) signed up to play.
If you're interested in attending a game, we'll play at 6pm on July 22 and July 29 at Congdon Park (west field) in Trail Creek. Thanks again to our sponsors, Rowley-Bushue and Foster Printing Service. Their support is very much appreciated. Hey, Johnny Rush...maybe WIMS wants to partner with us for some of our regional games next year? |

I finally got my lazy butt out there and took in a game! It was a great experience. The kids look like they were having about as much fun as the parents and volunteers. What a great program. Michigan City is lucky to have it.

For our bowling season, I thank Moose Family Lodge 980 for its continued hospitality and encouragement. For our baseball season, I thank the Town of Trail Creek and the TraiI Creek Parks and Recreation Department for their generosity and efforts. I thank our sponsors, Foster Printing Service, Rowley, Bushue and Co. LLP, and KMH Systems for their financial support. I thank Jeff Studtman, Brian Studtman and Chris Willoughby for their extraordinary efforts in making sure our players had everything they needed throughout the season. A special thanks to the Michigan City Wolves softball team and the Trail Creek baseball players who joined us for our end of the season game - I hope to see some of you next year! A special thanks to Marc Dusza, Paula Earley, Mike Hampel, Phil Skwiat and Chris Blake for their efforts throughout the year to make programs for children with special needs possible; and a thank you to all the buddies who gave up their Sunday afternoons to come out and help the kids play. While this next year will bring us some unique challenges, I have no doubt that our program will continue to thrive and grow through collaborative efforts and continued community support. Don't know if you saw this or not. It came from the "Soundoff" forum at the online ND...

How nice to open more doors for kids that are otherwise overlooked at times! I hope the community can "step up to the plate" and help this group hit their proverbial home run Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind~Dr. Suess

Challenger Little League starts this Sunday, 6pm, at Congdon Park in Trail Creek. Our first few weeks will just be practice, with our first game (against State Park from Chesterton) set for the first Sunday in June.
Anyone interested in volunteering to work with the kids? |

What is going on this year? In order to maintain our "official Little League" status, we've joined forces with the MC Parks & Rec dept and trail Creek Little League to form what's now known as Lakefront Little League. I'm running the Challenger Division, which includes individuals with special needs, ages 5-22, and encourages them to learn how to play baseball. We can always use volunteers to be "buddies" to our players...to mentor them and encourage them to do their best. If you, or someone you know is interested, the can PM or email me through this site...and I'll give you my contact info. Games will be Sunday evenings at 6pm, with the exception of two away games this year. Our "home" field is Congdon Park West in Trail Creek. Maybe we'll see you there? |

We had our first practice last night. My newer kids did so well--I'm really proud of them!
I'm still looking for volunteers, though...(hint, hint). If you know anyone who would be interested (they don't have to know a lot about baseballl)...send them my way. Please. |
