BE ALERT:

As a result of the substantial rainfall this morning the intersection of Johnson Road and Pahs Road will be closed for an extended period of time. The eastern shoulder of the roadway and culvert have suffered severe erosion as a result of the heavy rainfall.

Check out the pics posted to the CBTL Facebook page. I don't anticipate that intersection will be open any time soon, so folks who commute that way from LaPorte, or to LaPorte will have to find an alternate route.

Does anyone know when the Johnson Rd. & Pahs Rd. intersection will reopen. Ron Miller on the WEFM news said that last weeks rain storm washed out the entire east side of Johnson Rd. where it dips at T's with Pahs Rd. (and where there is always lots of accidents.)

Work safely to the highway crew working at this site.

When Johnson Road was repaved in 2008, they left the Johnson Road stretch around Pahs Road untouched. They were supposed to reconstruct that intersection years ago.

This is what Rick McVay told me via email on August 4th, 2008:

8/4/2008 - Rick McVay: "Construction will not begin until sometime next year-I am thinking June
or July if everything flows through the State in a timely manner. I
will have a better idea on the schedule once we get the submittal
process flowing."

By August 2011 it was obvious no work was getting started on this area. I contacted the highway department on August 23rd, 2011:

8/23/2011 - Me: "Hello, I was wondering if traffic signals are still planned to be installed on Johnson Road in La Porte County at 450 North and at Johnson Road at Pahs Road? I remember hearing about it back in 2007. Just wondering what the status on it is or if you were no longer going to do it?"

The reply I received from the highway department:

8/23/2011 - Jeff Wright: "There are no plans to install signals at these intersections at this time."

Well, now they're left with no choice but to do something.
Hopefully they will not just put a bandaid on it and call it good.

Welcome to the site Lake Breeze!

I just heard on WEFM that they are just going to slap a bandaid on it and maybe in 2015, if the federal funding goes through, they will continue with the project of making that intersection safer.

The project probably got pushed back because of the 6 year property task fiasco.

I just hope the road gets fixed safely and eventually right.

Really good points on both counts.

According to the NWI Times, Johnson and Pahs are scheduled to re-open this evening.
