Yesterday, just past sundown, I was driving back on 421 from the State Science Fair in Greencastle and as I crested the top of the Valparaiso morain, about two miles south of I-94, I could distinctly see both the flashing red light on top of the crane and the building itself above the far horizon. I also noticed a couple days ago that I caught a glimpse of it on Franklin Street just south of Jewels.

Anyone else see that Behemoth elsewhere? I'll bet you can see it from the beach at Warren Dunes, as well as the top of the Hancock/Sears Observatory/Skydeck.

I don't know about the hotel, but I can recall seeing the NIPSCO cooling tower from Stevensville on a clear summer day which is pushing 30 miles. Which is going to end up taller, the cooling tower or the hotel?

From page 2, part of the Introduction to the November 2007 Lohan Anderson "Trail Creek Plan:"

QUOTE
Tall buildings will generate great views of Lake Michigan,
as well as of activities along Trail Creek. High
rise development would be consistent with the new
22-story hotel being built by Blue Chip Casino - only
half the height of the existing NIPSCO power plant
smoke stack and cooling tower structures.

You couldn't just let me forget about those, could you? Sheesh, now my "Topic Description" looks stupid, and I can't figure out how to change it. Just pretend it reads, "How Far Away Can the Blue Chip Hotel Be Seen...It's Almost the Biggest Thing Around."

I'll have to pay attention the next clear day I am on the lake front in Chicago... if there is no haze, MC is pretty visable, in the form of the NIPSCO tower.

The Loop to Michigan City is less than 35 miles as the crow flies if I'm not mistaken. If you knew where to look, you could see Marquette Mall from the Hancock, believe it or not.

You're right, it's less than 35 miles and I've seen the Nipsco towers many, many times.

I'm pretty sure you would be able to see it from the top of Mt. Trashmore!

Will the hotel be taller than the observation tower?

I don't know, but the hotel will have the nipsco smoke stack in front of it. So it may not be seen from across the lake.

Don't know how far away the building can be seen, but I just concluded a tour with the Fire Dept and you can easily see the Westville water tower from the 17th floor. There are still a few more floors of penthouse level above that.
