Today is the last day before the elections, while many think of that as going out and voting for Obama or Romney, for us it means a myriad of local elections happening as well. Both at the county and City level, we have many important races to pick for who will be leading LaPorte County and the Michigan City Area School for the next four years. I would like to open this thread for candidates and supporters alike to give positive reasons as to why people should vote for your favorite candidate(s) of choice. PLEASE NO negatives of other people in the race. Keep it positive!
Also I set up a sister thread on the facebook page for Citybythelake.org if people want to post and/or read there as well. https://www.facebook.com/citybythelake.org/...151291622788875 |

QUOTE INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Lines at early polling places stretched out the door and down the block in some Indiana cities as voters scrambled to meet an early voting deadline. Early voting across the state was scheduled to end at noon Monday. Large numbers of voters stood in line Monday at the Lake County Government Center in Crown Point. At the City-County Building in Indianapolis, voters stood in a line nearly a block long huddled in the November chill. The Journal Gazette also reported long lines in Fort Wayne. But early turnout was down from the last presidential election in 2008. The Indiana secretary of state’s office reports that more than 460,000 people had voted across the state as of Friday, with the heaviest turnouts in urban Marion and Lake counties. That compares with about 516,000 who had voted by the Friday before Election Day in 2008. |

I just got to see the Secret Service block traffic in Chicago for the Presidential motorcade. It is amazing how quickly gridlock can happen.

Indiana has already been declared for Romney. No big surprise there3. Exit polls were at 60-39%, much wider than I would have anticipated. I wonder if that will reflect the rest of the races, as I figured Romney was the least popular Republican on the state-wide ballot. |

From Alco-97 all county races are pretty heavily going towards the Democrats right now. School Board races have Marty Corley, Deb Chubb, and Don Dulaney all pretty solidly in the lead with 51 of 86 precincts in.

Around the state, Glenda Ritz is blowing out Tony Bennett in the school superintendent race. Pence is up 6 points over Gregg in the governors race, and Donnelly is leading by 2 points over Mourdock.
In the category of no surprises, Pelath, Visclosky, and Arnold are leading by huge margins in their races. |

School Board races have Marty Corley, Deb Chubb, and Don Dulaney all pretty solidly in the lead with 51 of 86 precincts in. Local races holding in the same pattern with only 22 precincts in the county left to report. You can call wins for Corley and Dulaney right now. The only possible question for school board is Chubbs lead over Greene, but it would take a big late push to change that. |

Now only 16 precincts out in LaPorte County, Deb Chubb holding an almost 8 percentage point lead in the school board race, and leading with over 3800 votes to Bill Greene's just over 3000. Call that race for Chubb. One incumbant has gone down to defeat, so the team campaigning of Dulaney and Greene fails to get Bill Greene back into office for a second term.

62% of the vote in statewide, Pence leads by 6 points, Zoeller has been declared the winner in the AG race by the Journal-Gazette, and Donnelly holding on to the 2 point lead over Mourdock for US Senate.

Walorksi/Mullen still too close to call with 93% of vote counted, and Jackie up 2 points.
