Homey and I got off the Christmas track on my Christmas memories thread, so I thought I'd start this one. One of everyone's favorites was Ray Rayner - here's a little something:

"Rayner was undoubtedly the busiest man at WGN-TV in the 1960s. Besides his morning show (which at one time carried 70% of the Chicago viewing audience) and his noontime antics as Oliver O. Oliver on Bozo's Circus, Rayner also hosted a 4:30 live kid show that changed formats during the decade. First was the above mentioned The Dick Tracy Show, which Rayner appeared as Sgt. Pettibone, who handled radio communications from the Crimestopper Cruiser, a vehicle equipped with the latest in sophisticated crime stopping devices. He was assisted by Tracer the Dog, though at first he didn't have a name. A contest provided the canine's moniker."

I remember watching The Dick Tracy Show - you could join the Crimestopper Club - so my mom sent something in - and look what I just found online!

I got one of these in the mail! Here's a shot of Ray on the Crimestopper set -

I think I was actually watching this show the first time I saw color TV at someone's house at Stop 14.

Another WGN memory - I got an autograph from Frazier Thomas at a Cubs game when I was a kid - it was like meeting a rock star!

No thread like this would be complete without these holiday classics - usually seen on Garfiled Goose.

I remember when RingMaster Ned visited the MRQ Mall, gosh it would have to been before 1976.

I liked Garfield Goose with Frazier Thomas too.

Do you remember Frazier Thomas hosting Family Classics?

Oh, yeah, seemed like they showed Robin Hood and Moby Dick about a dozen times a year

Family Classics was an awsome show! I remember coming home from church with Grandma and we would have lunch then snuggle up together in the barca-lounger to watch it.
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Journey to the Center of the Earth
Old Yeller
The Wizard of Oz
Peter Pan
The Sound of Music

I think Sunday's starting at 10:00 was Rawhide, Cisco Kid and the Lone Ranger. At noon (unless it as baseball season) was either Charlie Chan or Sherlock Holmes movies.

That is what I always hated about WGN was the Cubs games, not only did I not get to watch my shows, I had to watch losers on TV

I don't remember the channels anymore, but I used to love "get that pigeon" and the "Great Grape Ape" while I was growing up. Also was a big fan of the "Great Space Coaster." The Archies were also must see viewing.

Speed Racer and Batman. I used to sing the Batman music when I was running and would pretend to be BatGirl!

I still know all the words to the Speed Racer theme song!

I think you are thinking of the old channel 32 before Fox and channel 44 before it became ONTV. Speed Racer was always my favorite to bad they wrecked it this year with that lame-@$$ movie. It could have been so much more.

You're right Joe, I did leave Channel 9 to talk about the cartoons. blush.gif

I have not seen the Speed Racer movie. I'm afraid to because I don't want it to ruin my beautiful memories of the cartoon. However, the Scooby-Doo movie did great justice to the cartoon, so there's always that hope. But, now that you've said it was lame, I may just wait till it comes out on FX or something.
