There is some good news on the local High School front. For the first time in a number of years, Michigan City High School's enrollment has grown over a two year period. The IHSAA puts out a list every two years of the 9-12 grade enrollment of each member school. In each of the previous three measurements MCHS had seen their enrollment fall over the the prior total. This time Michigan City saw a gain of 52 total students, and they also moved up from the 51st biggest high school in Indiana to now at #48. Total enrollment went from 1701 in 2015, to 1753 now.

I am hopeful this is the start of a new trend as a result of the efforts of people like Dr Eason-Watkins and her crew to improve so many of the offerings in our school system, such as better integration with local industry for the Career Center, and The Region's leading Advanced Placement program as measured by total credit hours of college credit earned.

This could also be a very early reflection of additional enrollment in an attempt to take advantage of the Michigan City Plan Scholarship program.

Thoughts?
