Horizon Bank turned a record profit of $9.1 million in the second quarter, a dramatic 43.4 percent increase.

The Michigan City-based bank made $0.41 earnings per share in the second quarter, up from $0.35 per share a year earlier. It's the third largest bank by market share in Northwest Indiana, after only Centier and Chase.

Horizon Bank made $17.3 million during the first six months of the year, or $0.77 per share, up from $11.7 million during the same period in 2016.
