Public Information Meeting – Ohio Street Reconstruction & Drainage Improvements

The City of Michigan City will hold a public information meeting to discuss the proposed reconstruction and widening of Ohio Street from Kieffer Road to U.S. 20. The purpose of the project is to address congestion, lack of pedestrian facilities, and roadway safety for motorists and pedestrians along Ohio Street.

Along Ohio Street, the project will consist of one 11-foot travel lane in each direction and a 12-foot two-way-left-turn-lane (TWLTL). The TWLTL will become a dedicated turn lane as it approaches the intersection of US 20 and a dedicated left turn lane as it approaches the intersection of Kieffer Road. An 8 to 10 foot wide concrete sidewalk will be placed adjacent to the curb along the east side of the roadway. Concrete curb and gutter will be placed outside of the travel lanes throughout the project limits. An enclosed storm sewer will be added along Ohio Street. Elements of the project include new roadway construction, an improved drainage system, new concrete sidewalk, and a new signal at Kieffer Road. One-way directional traffic will be maintained during construction. Access to all properties along the project will be maintained during construction.

The Public Information Meeting will consist of an informal Q&A session with the project management team from 6:30pm to 7:00pm, followed by a formal presentation at 7:00 p.m, followed by another informal Q&A session. The public will be welcome to engage in a discussion about this project, and to identify any additional concerns regarding the project.

The meetings will be held:

Thursday, October 26th, 6:30 – 8:30 PM
St. John’s United Church of Christ
101 St. John's Road
Michigan City, Indiana 46360
