Today is the 100th anniversary of the SS Eastland disaster on the Chicago River. The Eastland was to cruise over to Michigan City for the day as employees from Western Electric were to have a company picnic in City on that fateful day. Instead the ship rolled over in the Chicago River and an 844 people lost their lives.

Today is the 101st anniversary of the SS Eastland tragedy. The ship was set to sail from Chicago to Michigan City's Washington Park for a company picnic before the ship became overloaded on one side causing the ship to roll over in the Chicago River trapping hundreds under water.
