Today is the 100th anniversary of the SS Eastland disaster on the Chicago River. The Eastland was to cruise over to Michigan City for the day as employees from Western Electric were to have a company picnic in City on that fateful day. Instead the ship rolled over in the Chicago River and an 844 people lost their lives.
