The City of Michigan City Refuse Department will conduct its Annual Spring Clean-Up Starting Monday, April 1, 2024. The Refuse Department requests that all residents separate the debris that is to be discarded into the following three (3) categories. All three (3) categories must be separate from each other.

1. Brush, limbs, shrubs, yard waste and unpainted concrete. (no black top)
2. Rugs, lumber, furniture, mattress, and box-springs.
3. All tires rimmed or derimmed can be placed out for pick up with white goods such as stoves, refrigerator, air conditions, water tanks, dehumidifiers etc.

Residents may use curbside or alleys to put out their debris, wherever is most convenient. The clean-up process is divided into three (3) areas and the pick up for each area will be the same days as your normal refuse pick up day.

THE DATES FOR YOUR AREA PICK-UP WILL BE AS FOLLOWS (see map):
AREA 1: April 1-5 & REPEATED APRIL 22-26
AREA 2: APRIL 8-12 & REPEATED APRIL 29-May 3
AREA 3: APRIL 15-19 & REPEATED MAY 2-6

COMPOST INFORMATION
Compost pick-ups will begin Monday, May 13, 2024, and will continue until Friday, November 22, 2024. You may use your garbage cans, cardboard boxes and/or paper bags. NO PLASTIC BAGS OR TOTERS may be used for compost pick-ups. All compost pick-ups must be placed out on the curbside for removal and will not be picked up or removed from alleys. The resident will be responsible for getting their compost to the street. Listed below are the schedules for the regular trash pick up and the corresponding pick up day for the composting materials only:
