Janes Seeks Superior 3
LA PORTE - La Porte County attorney Edward Janes announced this week that he is seeking the Democratic nomination for La Porte Superior Court 3 judge.

Janes, 50, has practiced civil and criminal law in La Porte County for 17 years. He received his bachelor of science degree from Ball State University in 1983 and his law degree from Valparaiso University in 1990.

Over the past 17 years Janes has developed a diverse legal practice representing people in civil and criminal cases practicing in both state and federal courts.

"With my background I will bring to the bench the extensive legal knowledge, commitment to impartiality and professional integrity necessary to preside over the court," he said. "Superior Court 3 is a court in which many people have their only contact with the judicial system. It is absolutely necessary that when our citizens come before the court, they know that their case will be handled without prejudice and that each individual will be treated with respect and dignity."

Janes handles felony and misdemeanor criminal cases and civil cases in the areas of domestic relations, wrongful death, personal injury, and debtor- creditor relations.

He is a member of the La Porte County Bar Association and the Indiana Bar Association and in recent years has been an active volunteer for civic organizations including the American Cancer Society and the La Porte County Symphony.

For the past five years Janes has served on the executive board of directors for Parents & Friends Inc., which serves the needs of disabled adults in La Porte County. He and his wife, Susan, have been married for 13 years and attend Bethany Lutheran Church in La Porte.

Together they have four grown children and one grandchild.

Ed Janes appeared at the Elston Grove Neighborhood Association last night to introduce himself.

He has twice the attorney experience that Jennifer Evans has, but I don't know how he stacks up against Robert Neary, who appears to have some support on the board.
