Authorities identify man allegedly murdered in La Porte

La PORTE — Authorities have identified the 25-year-old La Porte man who died early Saturday morning in La Porte.

Marcus Phelps died from stab wounds, according to preliminary findings.

Justin Lower, 26, has been arrested and preliminarily charged with murder in the case.

Police were called to an alleyway in the 1000 block of Lincoln Way around 2:20 a.m. Saturday for a man who was bleeding severely.

Phelps was taken to IU Health La Porte Hospital, and later died.

An autopsy is planned at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center on Tuesday.
