Here are the only laws that the State of Indiana has on selling and buying scrap material. There are a bunch of problems the first being that they aren't enforced at all. I think the state should adopt the laws which St. Joe county has put in place. I'll try to put a set of those up here as well. Can you guys find the first and biggest loophole?
The first one I really noticed was in Chapter 1 Section 1c.
That's right. 1000 dollars of "scrap" is 1000 dollars of "scrap." Who cares what kind of metal or alloy it is? A lot of funeral urns are bronze. Southbend has very good and tight rules. Scrap dealers aren't allowed to take in funeral urns at all for example.
I've caught multiple people stealing scrap from all walks of life. None of the yards ever have that info on file. At best I had one that said RED DODGE, 4,500 lbs.
So, howsabout enforcing the existing rules? More unenforced rules are not going to make any difference.
So let's get a coupl'a guys traveling around to yards and asking to see the paperwork. Word will get around, dontcha think?
Unless you're police, they don't have to show anyone anything.
I wonder if IC 25-37.5-1-2( is being complied with. Who do we call?
That is, Section 2 paragraph b.
