Indiana Dunes Trail/Calumet Trail: If you are up for a challenge, you can cool off after a five mile loop though the Indiana Dunes located in Chesteron, Ind. Some of the best beaches around are located in the Indiana Dunes State Park. (Some of the trails are sand, but views are amazing.) The Calumet Trail, a paper-flat nine mile crushed limestone path is nearby. It follows the South Shore Railroad Line near Dune Park and runs between Chesterton and Michigan City.

A stretch of late September dry weather has finally dried up the water clogged trail, and is now fit for hiking, jogging and biking.

That's funny. Who doesn't like to run or bike in the sun, on an often over grown trail with ZERO coverage, under high tension power lines next to a train line? Don't get me started about that trail after a little rain. When I hit the bike trail to go to Hobart, I usually skip this section and just ride on 12 because it's so much better.
