QUOTE Comedian Gallagher the next big 'breaking' headliner for Blue Chip Casino Thursday, April 19, 2007 12:34 AM CDT Post a Comment | Email this story | Print this story BY PHILIP POTEMPA ppotempa@nwitimes.com 219.852.4327 A smashing idea As Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City gets closer to completing its new hotel/spa and entertainment complex, it continues to tease the region with booking more and more entertainment headliners to perform in the ballroom of its existing pavilion. To date, the entertainment names who have appeared at Blue Chip Casino include Chubby Checker, Vicki Lawrence, Pauley Shore, Wayne Newton, Tiffany, Bill Cosby, Backstreet Boy Jeff Timmons and New Kids on the Block lead singer Jordan Knight. Next up, add to that list comedy legend Gallagher, who will bring his wacky brand of humor to Blue Chip Casino Hotel at 9 p.m. Saturday, May 19, in the Grand Ballroom for one show. Tickets are on sale now, priced at $30 plus tax and are available at the Blue Chip Gift Shop or by calling (888) 879-7711, ext. 3608. No one younger than 21 will be admitted. As for attire, remember to dress comfortably and pack a rain slicker if your seats are anywhere near the stage. Gallagher, 60, one of the most popular comedy acts of the '80s, is known for his "Sledge-O-Matic," a huge wooden mallet that he uses to smash foodstuffs such as watermelons, containers of chocolate milk and cartons of cottage cheese. His publicist Toni Antonetti tells me: "Beyond this physical comedy and the splashing, which is generally reserved for the end of the show, he offers his traditional stand-up, which includes his trademark humorous observations and social commentary." Wow. The most suprising part of this announcement is that Gallagher is still alive. Everytime I see one of his performances on TV it always looks to be from 1981.

This is great! Growing up, my dad looked just like Gallagher. For one Halloween, my dad went as Gallagher and carried a fake rubber mallet. My mom...the watermelon of course!

That's cause he wears the same clothes. Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind~Dr. Suess

Anyone remember when his brother decided to steal Gallagher persona because he couldn't come up with anything of his own? He performed as Gallagher II i think.
