QUOTE School Bus-Inspection Stats Released LOWELL, Ind. - Senior Trooper Jim Burkhart of the Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division reported annual school bus inspection for buses in Lake, Porter, La Porte, Jasper, Newton, Pulaski and Starke counties has been completed. Officers from the division led the effort, which includes 54 criteria ranging from appearance to mechanical condition. Each bus receives a rating of either Approved (no defects), Rejected (minor defects) or Out-of-Service (major defects). Any bus not passing the inspection must have all defects repaired and is re-inspected later. In La Porte County, 182 buses were inspected with 174 approved, five rejected and three placed out of service. Troopers and motor carrier inspectors inspected 1,917 buses in the seven-county region. Of those, 1,648 were approved, 105 were rejected and 164 buses were placed out of service. |
