Potentially great news for Michigan City on the continued recovery front. Last night the Planning Commission approved a plan to forward on to the Common Council to rezone the block bordered by 5th, 6th, Spring, and Pine from a high density residential zone (RB3) to a mixed used commercial and residential zone (CBD1) to more closely resemble the type of stuff going on in the former Franklin Square area. The optimistic news is that it sounds like once/if the changes are adopted by the Council, there is some potential interest in developing the property by developers. We could see a development with something like commercial activities on the ground floor, with some potential combination of apartments, lofts, and/or condos above.
