Sammann, Inc., the parent company of Peepers Reading Glasses, has been named one of 27 "companies to watch" in 2014 by the Indiana Small Business Development Center. Owner Alec Sammann also confirmed plans for the company to soon go through an on-site, 300,000 square foot expansion that will result in an additional five jobs in Michigan City.

That would be really big news. |

Correction: Lee Schelling pointed out on Facebook. It is a 3,000 sq. foot expansion not 300,000. That would be really big news. I used to work for this company in the summer of 73/74 and 74/75. I was in college and this was my summer job. Harold Samman sr. was in the scissor business. His son Paul N. Samman later took the company in the direction of glasses. The primary business was importing and they found an Italian company that had great product but need an outlet in the US and Samman has become that primary outlet. It's a great business, with great people. |

It's a great business, with great people. Actually it was Paul's wife who decided to start doing reading glasses. She started with a design or two of reading glasses that had a spattered paint look, almost like Jackson Pollock painting. They were a huge hit and resulted in great sales as well as the birth of some copy cats. I share your sentiment, they're great people! Go Alec, GO! |
