Trick-or-Treating Tips
• Plan your route ahead of time.
• Trick or treat in familiar neighborhoods.
• Carry a flashlight with fresh batteries after dark.
• Always trick or treat in groups, accompanied by an adult.
• Follow the correct hours of treating
• Respect people who do not want to participate
• Stay on the sidewalks and out of the streets. Cross only at intersections and designated crosswalks.
• Walk. No running.
• Don't trample through flower beds and gardens.
• Watch out for open flames in pumpkins.
• Walk with your head up and be aware of your surroundings.
• Only visit well lit houses. Don't stop at dark houses.
• Don't enter any houses unless you know the people.
• Carry a spare Halloween bag, in case yours breaks or you fill your original one.
• Don't approach unfamiliar pets and animals.
• Don't cut across yards and stay out of backyards.
• Follow traffic signals and don't jaywalk.
• Always watch for cars backing up or turning.
• Review the "stop, drop and roll" procedure in case your costume catches on fire.
• Never accept rides from strangers.
• Respect other people and their property.
• Be polite and say "thank you."
• Don't eat any candy until it's inspected by your parents
• Avoid candy that has loose wrappings, is unwrapped, has puncture holes, or is homemade.
• Don't carry fake swords, guns, knives or similar accessories that look authentic. Make sure they're flexible and cannot harm anyone.
• Report any suspicious or criminal activity to an adult or the police

I'd hate to be a kid now. Trick or Treat always gets jacked up. Why is it three days before Halloween? Why does it start when it's bright outside? I always thought one of the coolest parts about trick or treating was it being dark, especially when you got to the houses who really did it up right. It was part of the fun.

This is the first year that I can remember it NOT being on Halloween in City. The in-laws live the Pines. Usually their trick or treat is the Sunday of, or before, Halloween from something like 2 to 4pm. Then we try handing out candy on the Trick or Treat in City. Though it will probably be dark for most of that two hours. Sunset will be 6 at the latest by then.

Trick or treat is tonight from 5 to 7pm!

We got zero kids on Sunday. So we prepared for tonight just in case. Zero kids tonight. Last year we had at least 80 kids - I stopped counting at 65. I am so bummed, I love seeing the kids in their costumes. I wish they wouldn't change it, it's too confusing for everyone.

When I was a kid we trick or treated on halloween and at night. Thank goodness that's the way it is where we live now. Having trick or treating during the day and not on halloween is lame. When did that all start? I. Don't see why people put up with that.
