Teen Tasered after shooting snot on officer

Deborah Sederberg
The News-Dispatch

LA PORTE - A 17-year-old Michigan City boy was Tasered by a La Porte County sheriff's deputy after he spit on a Michigan City police officer and made several attempts to escape from custody at 11 a.m. Thursday, according to a Michigan City police report.

On Thursday, Michigan City police officer Ronald Skibbins was outside Magistrate Nancy Gettinger's courtroom at the courthouse in La Porte, waiting to testify, when he heard a commotion in the courtroom.

According to his report, a juvenile who had been sentenced dropped to his knees and began to cry.

The boy's attorney and another man tried to get him off the floor, but then his brother, a 17-year-old, interfered, Skibbins reported.

The report indicated the boy who was sentenced yelled obscenities as he was taken from the courtroom and his brother began to curse, and as Skibbins tried to lead him from the courtroom, he several times managed to free himself from the officer's grip.

Eventually, the officer began pushing him toward the courtroom door and the boy fell backward.

At that point, Skibbins reported, "He spit a 5-inch length of snot over my face and uniform."

Skibbins turned him over to handcuff him. Two sheriff's deputies came to the officer's assistance and as the boy tried to get up from the floor a deputy applied a Taser to his chest.

Skibbins said the boy then threatened Skibbins, saying he knows where the officer lives.

The boy is charged with battery by bodily waste, resisting law enforcement and disorderly conduct.

According to the officer's report, the boy's mother was charged with disorderly conduct.

OK. I just wish I had job. Haven't had much luck in that area, but I did have an EXCELLENT time with IndyT (you party animal you!) and Michelle and Edgywood Saturday night at the boat.
The weather has been pretty crappy too, and I have only been to the beach a couple times. The past few days has been better, but VERY humid and I'm having a hard time adjusting to that. WY is very dry all year long and this humid wet weather makes it difficult to breath!

I had fun too!

But the weather is perfect for another indoor or shaded outdoor fun day/night. Anyone up for Cascade Mountain....or Bw3's?

What a perfect day for a parade today. I am loving this weekend. smile.gif
