QUOTE Grand Prix races will return for three years The Super Boats will return in race mode for three more years for the Super Boat Great Lakes Grand Prix in Michigan City. Photo by Robb Quinn By Amanda Jacobson Staff Writer Published: Tuesday, August 9, 2011 5:08 PM CDT MICHIGAN CITY — Michigan City's third-annual Super Boat Great Lakes Grand Prix took place Sunday, and had fans roaring and waves splashing all along Washington Park beach. But rumors have started to spread that the Great Lakes Grand Prix will not return to Michigan City because of a three-year contract closure between Super Boat International and Michigan City. La Porte County Convention and Visitors Bureau Sports Development Manager Jason Miller dispelled those rumors on Monday, saying the races will return for another three years, by way of a new three-year contract. "This race is extremely healthy and will be here for a long time," Miller said. * Dates for the next set of Michigan City Super Boat Great Lakes Grand Prix events are posted on the Super Boat International website as Aug. 3-5, 2012 and Aug. 2-4, 2013. No dates have been set for 2014 at this time. Miller also addressed any rumors of Benton Harbor vying for the race on its shores. "Benton Harbor very well may want to do that, but they don't have any affiliation with our race here," he said. |
