Big news from the Planning Commission meeting last night. The former Memorial Hospital sight now has a plan in place for a new development on that spot. The plan is for a three story buildings to go up which will include a couple of retails spots along Pine, and 50 total high end apartments as rental units when the project is fully completed.

Are you sure you heard right? The plan was for Elston's Legacy Apartments which called for four, 4 storey buildings with ground floor retail and 3 stories of apartments above. The city was also going to construct a parking garage. The developer was Paul Dresden.

If this is true this will be so underwhelming and Craig Philips and the Redevelopment Commission will look ridiculous and incompetent with this value engineered garbage while always claiming to have "world class" ambitions for the city.

Everything this city tries is done half-assed. I've also noticed that they have all stopped using their key phrase of "seeking a high rise hotel with lake views" for the former police station site. It will end up a 2 level La Quinta.


This is a sad case of the officials believing any development is better than an empty field which is bullshit. They own the property, it's an absolute prime location. Sit on it until a real, architecturally significant and prominent proposal to grow and define the city comes along. Ruining this beautiful site with a couple 3 storey buildings is inexcusable and should be dismissal worthy for Craig Philips and Don Babcock as president.
