Former councilman announces candidacy

Dave Biela announced Wednesday he will run in the Democratic primary for one of the at-large seats on the Michigan City Common Council.

Biela served on the council in the early 1980s, representing the Third Ward, and then, after redistricting, the Second Ward.

“My goal back then was to see Michigan City grow and prosper with a proper voice in city government,” Biela said in a prepared statement.

Biela said his platform is “Experience the past and invest in the future.”

“I believe that along with the rest of the city leaders we started Michigan City in the right direction back then. Now again I say that Michigan City will grow and prosper with a proper voice in city government, and I would like very much to be a part of the future development and success of our city.”

Biela said that his experience in government is an asset he hopes to use to distinguish himself among the other announced candidates.

Biela, now semi-retired, said he has the time and still has the dedication to work toward his goals for the city.

He said he promises he will deliver on his pledges.
