I love the farmers market, there is always so much good stuff there.

Farmers markets will open Saturday

Farmers markets in Michigan and LaPorte will open on Saturday.

In Michigan City, the market at Eighth and Washington streets, opens at 8 a.m. and remains open until noon or until items are sold out.

Hanging baskets, bedding plants, baked goods, gourmet foods and herbs are some of the items for sale. The market will be open Saturdays now through October.

Market Manager Ruth Deutscher said local not-for-profit groups will conduct weekly bake sales. She said a limited number of spaces are still available to vendors on either a season or weekly basis. In LaPorte, a ribbon cutting ceremony marks the opening of the farmers market at 7 a.m. Saturday. The market is sponsored by the LaPorte Urban Enterprise Association and will be held in the circle between the LaPorte County Courthouse and the County Complex.
