Spring clean-up starts Monday

From Staff Reports

Mayor Chuck Oberlie announced Tuesday the city's annual spring clean-up will begin Monday, March 26, and will last through May 4. He urged city residents to use the opportunity to “spruce up their homes and neighborhoods in anticipation of warmer weather.”

Oberlie has asked residents prepare for the clean-up by picking up litter like plastic bags, fast food containers and other trash that has blown into yards and along roads.

For the pickup, the refuse department is requesting residents separate debris into three categories: Brush, limbs, shrubs, yard waste and concrete (no black top); rugs, lumber, furniture and building materials of all sorts; and all tires, rimmed or de-rimmed. They can be placed out for pickup with white goods such as stoves, refrigerators, air conditioners, water tanks and dehumidifiers.

Pickup will be the same day as refuse pickup.

Area 1 includes the area bounded by County Line Road on the west, Franklin Street on the east, Kieffer Road on the south and 2nd Street on the north. Pickup will be March 26-30 and April 16-20.

Area 2 is bordered by Franklin Street on the west, Michigan Boulevard and Roeske Avenue on the east, and 2nd Street on the north. Pickup will be April 2-6 and 23-27.

Area 3, bordered by Lake Shore Drive, U.S. 12 and Shoreland Drive on the north, Michigan Boulevard on the west and Meer Road on the east, will see pickup April 9-13 and April 3 through May 4.

Compost pickups will begin Monday, May 7, and will continue until Nov. 16. Residents can use their garbage cans, cardboard boxes and or paper bags for compost. No plastic bags may be used. All compost pickups must be placed at curbside.

Compost pickup for residents whose trash pickup is on Monday will be Thursday, while those with Tuesday trash pickup will have their compost picked up on Friday. Wednesday trash customers should place their compost at the curb on Mondays, while Thursday customers should place their compost at the curb on Tuesday and Friday trash pickup customers should put their compost at the curb on Wednesday.
