QUOTE School Board Member Files For Re-election From Staff Reports MICHIGAN CITY - Clyde Zeek, an incumbent Michigan City Area Schools board member, announced Wednesday he has filed for re-election. Zeek, who represents Long Beach and Springfield Township on the board, has lived in the community for 25 years. The former superintendent of schools said in a press release his "knowledge and experience as a board member, educator and community member provide me with the necessary requisites to be an effective board member and to continue the efforts to provide a meaningful and effective educational program for all of the students to live and attend our schools." Zeek said he has received community feedback urging him to continue on the board. The key issues for MCAS in the coming months, he said, are the budget and educational programs. "As of Jan. 1, 2009, the state will assume direct funding of the General Fund," he said. "This is the fund from which all personnel salary and fringe benefits are paid. The board must make sure the spending plan represents allocations which directly support education that is of a quality that will ensure improvement and attainment of specified goals." Zeek said because 51 percent of sophomores in the MCAS fail the ISTEP, changes are needed in basic education programs. "This is unacceptable," he said. |

Ummmm.......
What about teacher's working without a contract for an entire school year? What about increased insurance premiums and no increase in wages? What about classified personnel getting dinked on retro pay? What about a Superintendent that has done nothing to inspire confidence from the entire community? What about sneaky underhanded employment practices? Getting rid of Class A coaches, teachers and mentors because they disagree with an issue? The list goes on. Do you think Mr. Zeek would be willing to answer any of those questions truthfully? I don't. Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind~Dr. Suess

As I understand the rumor mill, Mr. Zeek will have some competition for his seat.
