QUOTE MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - By STEVE THOMAS Bismarck Tribune The list of coaches in the running for the Dakota Wizards coaching position is narrowing rapidly. Wizards general manager Tom Wagganer said the count is down to five and one of the names has a familiar ring. Former Wizards coach Duane Ticknor and four other men have been winnowed out from a field of almost 40 applicants. Joining Ticknor as finalists are Roy Rogers, Bob Thornton, Gary Kloppenburg and an unidentified candidate. "With one of them we're waiting to find out what his contractual situation is with his current team," Wagganer said. Ticknor coached the Wizards in their IBA days, taking them to a 30-6 season in 1999-2000. He has a 197-121 IBA-CBAcoaching record and has spent the last two academic years at the high school level. He's the basketball coach and athletic director at Marquette High School in Michigan City,Ind. Rogers has coached in the D-League the past three seasons as an assistant at Tulsa. Thornton is an assistant coach with the Minnesota Timberwolves, a position he's held for two seasons. Previously, he was an assistant with the Chicago Bulls for two seasons. Before moving to the NBA, he coached Huntsville, Ala., of the D-League for a season. Kloppenburg has served as an assistant for the Charlotte Bobcats the last three seasons. Earlier, he coached Quad City of the CBA. Wagganer said the pool of finalists has strong credentials. "Four of the five have been head coaches in some manner or form in pro basketball," he noted. If things go according to plan, Wagganer said the Wizards hope to name a successor to Dave Joerger within a couple of weeks. "I'd say we'd like to have someone in place by the end of the month," he said. Joerger resigned after leading Dakota to the D-League championship last season. He joined the Memphis Grizzlies as an assistant coach. |

QUOTE Duane Ticknor will be the new coach for the Dakota Wizards Basketball team. Ticknor coached the Wizards back in the 99'-2000 season where the team finished as the top team in the IBA West. The Wizards are excited to bring back a familiar face to the team. "Tom: And I think more importantly um he was the guy who was the head coach here before Dave um and he's kinda coach Joerger's mentor so it's an opportunity they have similar philosophies similar coaching styles so I think from the fans I think it's gonna be a similar team that they've seen in the past. " Ticknor was former Wizard head coach Dave Joerger's mentor. Ticknor was a four time IBA coach of the year and also coached in the CBA for three years. He hasn't coached professionally since 2005 but was involved in the Marquette Catholic High School basketball team in Michigan City, Indiana as their head coach and school athletic director. His first line of business as the Wizards head coach will be at the NBA-D League Pre-draft camp in Texas. Ticknor will be formally announced at a press conference this wednesday. |

That is fine. I actually had heard from what seemed to be a good source that he would not go because his wife has a good job in Chicago and his son is going to school there, too. Oh, well.
