A Michigan City area man could face prison time on allegations he downloaded images of children engaged in sex acts.

Jeffrey Cooper, 37, 5055 N. Pawnee Trail, was arraigned Wednesday in La Porte Circuit Court on two counts of Class D felony possession of child pornography.

The charges allege he was in possession of images of children who appeared younger than 16 between Aug. 19 and 30.

According to court documents, his wife was suspicious about her husband’s activity on the computer in the family’s apartment and discovered the images Aug. 30.

A warrant for Cooper’s arrest was issued Oct. 13 following an investigation that included a forensic examination of the computer hard drive.

According to the report by sheriff’s deputy Jeff Wright, Cooper’s wife found a file on the computer that contained numerous pictures and videos of children engaged in various sex acts.

Wright said he opened some of the videos and saw that “clearly, there were children under the age of 16,” according to court records.

The woman told police the computer is “Jeff’s life,” adding that he’s not working and recently quit as a part-time student at Purdue University-North Central.

According to police, the forensic examination of the hard drive turned up 21 images “considered suspicious.”

Court documents revealed there were images of three girls who appeared to be younger than 10, at least five more females between 13 and 17, as well as two males younger than 12 engaged in sex acts.

On Nov. 5, Cooper posted bail set at $600 cash or $6,000 in property assets. He could face six months to three years on each count.
