City By the Lake.org The State of Indiana Department of Education released their school grades yesterday. As a district, the MCAS moved up from a D to a C. Reviewing individual school grades reveals some good trends and bad trends. First the good news, 7 of the 12 schools saw their grades go up this year. Only 2 schools saw their grade fall. Springfield, Joy, and Lake Hills came in with A's. Joy's A was up from a D last year. Michigan City High School received its highest grade ever with a C, which is a big credit to Kevin Goralczyk and the staff that was at MCHS last year (Coach Boyd, Bonnie Manual the other Ast Principals) who stepped in during a chaotic situation and still managed to improve the school in the state's eye. The bad news is that the middle schools were the 2 schools that saw their grades fall (Krueger from C to D, and Barker from B to C) and Elston stayed at an F. It seems that the biggest struggles in the system are at that level. That also feeds into the high school, as the 9th graders seem to have the most trouble at the high school. |
