I just talked to the Mayors Office, and despite the burn and fireworks bans in LaPorte County, the annual fireworks show is still on for this Sunday at dusk. Invite your family and friends, and pass the word that there will still be a show this weekend!

It's because they are projected from the beach over the water.

It was a great show and VERY well attended.

I was especially impressed by the traffic management along the major arteries by multiple police agencies. I got home faster than I ever have.

Churches and schools should not be havens for creeps.

Police Support

Michigan City Mayor Ron Meer and its citizens would like to acknowledge the multiple local and state police agencies that lent their support to the Michigan City Police Department during our annual fireworks display Sunday night.

The Indiana State Police, LaPorte County Police, Town of Trail Creek Police, and the Long Beach Police Departments were an invaluable resource in the City of Michigan City’s ability to present a safe and enjoyable fireworks event.

Providing a secure atmosphere for Michigan City’s citizens and visitors was the top priority for both Mayor Meer and Michigan City Police Chief Mark Swistek. A great deal of time and effort went into developing and coordinating a plan that was professionally carried out by all of the brave men and women of these various departments. On behalf of Mayor Meer, the Michigan City Police Department, and our citizens, we extend to you a sincere thank you.
