Hello! We are the Michigan City Outreach team.

We have a vision to see change in Michigan City for the better. Our team was started by Olivet Nazarene University graduates Angela Grupe and Joshua Moran. Angie, her husband, and daughter have lived in Michigan City since May of 2007 in Coolspring Estates. Joshua is still in Illinois, waiting for his wife Susan (who is the daughter of a Nazarene minister) to graduate from Olivet, with plans to move her in May 2009. The other members of the team are Matthew and Joanna Dillard, who also live in Coolspring Estates with their daughter, Gracie. They moved here in March of this year, but Matt grew up here in Michigan City, graduated from MCHS, and was the first one to tell Angie about Michigan City.

Our current ministries are:

Avenue Family Church

  • Meets at an unusual but more convenient time of 2PM on Sundays in the basement of First Christian Church (11th and Lafayette) downtown.
  • Brand-new kind of kid-friendly, blended family church
  • Easy-to-learn song lyrics and fun motions in worship service
  • Puppet show before sermon for kids
  • Kids go to Quiet Hands-On Activity table in same room as service during sermon so adults can focus on the sermon with no distractions
  • Seperate nursery for those 3 and under
Kidz Avenue
  • FREE afterschool program meets at same place (11th and Lafayette) on Wednesdays from 4-6PM
  • Movie nights on Friday from 4-6PM coming soon
  • For ages 2-14, with seperate "Lil' Kidz Avenue" for those 6 and under
  • Video games, sports, computer game lab, homework help, crafts, table games, and more!
  • Pick up and drop off available
  • Our Halloween party on October 29th brought in around 35 people!
Teen Tutoring
  • We know that the ISTEP scores for MCHS and the graduation rate are pretty bad. We want to help!
  • FREE tutoring for all basic school subjects, plus Greek and Spanish
  • "As-needed" basis - we get a call or email about a student, we make contact with them to set up time and place that is convenient for them and tutor them for as long as needed
  • We also tutor elementary students (can be done during Kidz Avenue on Wed) and college students
  • While we aren't professional teachers, we do have experience in tutoring high school students and younger in various subjects - we each have our specialty that we tutor best in.
