QUOTE A shot fired long wooded Dickson Street in Michigan City. Early Sunday morning, Indiana conservation officers say someone in a car took aim at a deer just 50 yards from where children play. “Somebody shot from a car so that's definitely scary that people are just driving by shooting at night,” neighbor Ryan Tonk says. “Especially with our little guy here walking around a little bit.” Tonk has a toddler son, Calvin. The Tonk family live steps from where a deer was found dead -- shot once and left to die. "Obviously they're not using their skills in the right way if they're capable of making that shot,” Indiana conservation officer Tyler Brock says. “A hunter is someone who does it the right way. This person is a poacher." Brock says it's against the law to shoot within city limits because there's no safe direction to fire a shot without getting close to homes. That's why the person responsible could face up to a level 6 felony for criminal recklessness. "It's a residential area, you obviously have a high population,” he says. “It's pretty rare out here and we’re pretty concerned about that.” |
