Eastport Elementary School (we could name at least 5 other schools)

The Michigan Blvd Projects

The Trolley Stop Restaurant in the Mall

Baskin Robbins in the Mall

Chevy's on Karwick

And there was a Mexican fast food place that sold soft ice cream near Ames Field where Rally's is now -- it was called Paco's Taco's or something like that (anyone remember the real name?)

Roeske's Flour Mill (going way back)

11th Street Train Station

Signature Bar
"The country needs and, unless I mistake its temper, the country demands bold, persistent experimentation. It is common sense to take a method and try it: If it fails, admit it frankly and try another. But above all, try something."

That was Ponchos Tacos. It was actually across the street from Rallys where Laporte Savings Bank is. I believe it was a Burger Chef to begin with.

There was only one Burger Chef in Mc - at the SE corner of Michigan Blvd. and Carroll Ave.

Les's Garage. It was on Lake Ave just up from LaCuisine's on LSD. You could rent great big ol' inner tubes for the beach and get a BAG FULL of candy for a nickel.

Chevy's on Karwick

I wasn't old enough to make it there as Chevy's, but I did have the (mis)fortune of being in there when it was a disco club ohmy.gif

OMG, I remember Les' garage down by LaCuisine! Us kids used to love going in there and buying Bubs Daddy bubble gum (we always loved the green apple!) yet for some reason, we were scared to death of the old guy!! And as for LaCuisine, they used to have some of the BEST pizzas there in Michigan City! Since we're on the topic of lakefront memories....how about Ramona's Cottages??? Ok, let me be a bit on the talkative side and add more....how about Slisher's 76 gas station on Second Street, as well as the Two Sisters grocery store right down the road from there. If I remember correctly, the man who ran it was named Leo.

Green apple was my fav, too, but I also liked the grape, and I agree with you about that old man. He scared the hell out of us, too. There was no way anyone was going to steal anything from him!! One time I got busy and didn't return an inner tube in time, that old man was knocking on my door! Told my parents that if I can't be resposible enough to return items that were loaned to me, then I didn't need to be borrowing any thing any more! I got grounded for a week for that!
Aaaaahhhhh, those were the days when discipline was important.

On that note, my next entry is....

Respect toward adults from the youth of MC

The hamburger joint that stood prior to the opening of Ponchos Tacos was called Henry's ... it was on the northeast corner of Franklin and Allen Streets,
