Walorski to run for 2nd District in 2012

Published: Wednesday, March 23, 2011 5:06 PM CDT
SOUTH BEND — Nearly five months after losing a tight race for Indiana’s 2nd Congressional seat, former state Representative Jackie Walorski has announced she will once again vie for the seat currently held by democratic representative Joe Donnelly.

“I am running because I believe we need to get our country back on track,” Walorski said. “We need to get our economy moving again so businesses can create jobs, and it’s time to stop the reckless government spending that drives up the federal deficit while passing on massive debt to our children.”

Walorski officially announced her candidacy Tuesday for the election scheduled for November 2012.

This will be her second attempt at the United States Congress, finishing just more than 2,500 votes behind Donnelly, who has held the position since 2007. Donnelly has yet to announce if he plans to run for a fourth term.

The official district lines may change with the state legislature required to redraw district lines based on the results of the 2010 census. Before her initial run at the U.S. Congress, Walorski served as a member of the Indiana House of Representatives in the 21st district from 2005-2011.
