QUOTE Absentee voting hours limited By Alicia Ebaugh Published: Monday, March 21, 2011 5:06 PM CDT Staff writer LA PORTE — Absentee voting at the county’s courthouses will be limited to six hours a day for this year’s primary election to reduce costs and demand on staff, County Clerk Lynne Spevak told commissioners Tuesday. Also, only one Saturday of voting will be available due to the Easter holiday, she said. Normally two Saturdays are scheduled. “We usually only get 20 percent or less of voters coming to the polls for primary elections,” Spevak said. “I don’t see this hindering anyone’s chance to vote.” Between April 4 and 29, in-person absentee voting will be available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Michigan City Courthouse. Those times will be the same for the La Porte Courthouse, but voting will not be available on Wednesdays. Both courthouses will be closed April 22 for Good Friday. Voting will be also available Saturday, April 30, at both courthouses from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 2 will be the final day for in-person absentee voting from 8 a.m. to noon. All mail-in ballots are due back to the clerk’s office by April 25. In addition, Spevak said two voting locations in La Porte will be combined with neighboring precincts. Voting for residents who live in precinct two of La Porte’s 2nd Ward will now be held at Cummings Lodge at Soldier’s Memorial Park. Fifth Ward residents in precinct two will now vote at Agape Christian Church, 1601 I St. Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind~Dr. Suess
