Michigan City school funding in new state budget
The budget bill passed by the Legislature calls for Michigan City Area Schools to receive funding of $44,385,038.85 in 2010 and $43,662,809.15 in 2011. * "Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." That is less than the $1.2 million loss that was originally talked about, but still a big hole in the budget. It will be interesting to see how they try to close it. Pay close attention!

How many children are enrolled in the MCAS schools? Has the number increased or decreased the last few years? Just curious. * "Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." Benjamin Franklin, Historical Review of Pennsylvania, 1759 |

Ask and thou shall receive! Thanks Eric. So the change over the last few years has been fairly minimal it seems ( approx change of 100 students the last 3 years) if I am reading this correctly. The difference between last year and the year before is a loss of 179, but had gained 280 the previous 2 years. (Not sure why the losses are listed as positives and the gains as negatives). Of course, by my computation, using the enrollment figures only there has been a loss of 1772 students overall the last 20 years. Now if the enrollment remained stagnant at 6927 for 2010, the state monies provided would be approx $6407.00 per student. The above is just me thinking out loud on this forum LOL. Thanks again Eric * "Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." Benjamin Franklin, Historical Review of Pennsylvania, 1759 |

Thanks again Eric Your welcome. I went ahead and updated the images to reflect the according loss/gain of studens. All this information and much, much, MORE is available at the Indiana Department of Education. Here's the county-wide breakdown...
[url=http://www.indystar.com/data/government/school_funding_2009.shtml?appSession=239178667476739] hopefully the link works... Our $6407 per student is just under the state average of $6553, by the way. "If a man opens the car door for his wife, it's either a new car or a new wife." - Duke of Edinburgh.
