Police say a man is dead after falling out of his fishing boat Friday afternoon on a private pond in LaPorte County.

Crews say the man fell into the water in the 500 block of 600 west near Michigan City.

DNR Officer Gene Davis says that they found the body a few hours later. The man was described as a 51-year-old Illinois man.

Witnesses say it appears he was fishing and the boat capsized. He fell out, and witnesses tried to swim out and save him but he could not be found.

A team of divers helped recover the body.
